Subarachnoid hemorrhage survivor

I did go for further testing, they did an MRI and in the process discovered another aneurysm. I meet with the neurosurgeon on September 22nd.

Hi oystein i will try and cut this as short as possible
My wife had a sah in jan 2010 she went through so much and was in hospital for 3 months icu for 4 weeks, she is trying to come to terms as am i but find it so hard at times my wife is now very weak in her left hand but is slowly getting better at doing things on her own again, i myself am a positive person and very much believe my wife will get her hand to work for her once more and apart from that she will have a very normal life again.
stay well karen an martin

I survived multiple leaks/ruptures 7 years ago…I had 3 emergencies in 29 days. Saw MD/PCP for testing and diagnosis immediately following the first emergency; again, the day before the second one. PCP was in a clinic of a different hospital.
Between those first two emergencies, only an EEG was done; surgery to pin my right humerus which fractured in blackout/syncope of my first emergency…
From second emergency on, I lost memory…except for what I call “visual flash memory” … I can “see” a face/space and have no memory of conversation.
Sis told me I “refused” to go back to emergency; they took me to another hospital…far too long a story…
I was 61 years old…that I survived multiple leak/rupture emergencies and procedures are amazing.
It took my first five years in recovery therapies before I could “see” what needed to be done at home. Yes, I could shower/dress in clean clothes and not remember if I ate or paid the bills. I could not remember to look at my daily TO DO list. These past two years have been a challenge to begin sorting, cleaning, recycling…of years of papers (needed and not needed) It will take more time to reach a sense of some order in my life. I have thanked/declined dear friends who offered to help; I think their efficiency would cause more confusion for me overall… I cannot “change subjects” in my thought process…
I attempted to return to work a few times and could not; my years of “retirement” planning are completely altered.

Jim, have you checked with your neurologist on the balance?

I tripped on curbs, walked into walls, doors, fell down stairs, broke my glasses, hit my chin; scraped/bruised my knees…I survived driving, tho startled a few times; yes, passed my driver test…

My neuro referred me to vision therapy…I saw neuro-oph before/after therapy… comparison results were great at the neuro-oph level…to confirm my own experiences / beliefs in my success.
To me, vision therapy was a blessing…from reversing pain in one pupil to balance coordination; finally for me, to reading/comprehension. I am yet slow at reading/learning… often study in my child-hood outline format.
Have you asked your oph and/or seen a neuro-oph; and, have you had hearing tested?

Recently learned auditory also relates to balance…I did auditory therapy, tho did not know, or remember, advice/discussion on balance…tho this therapy was after vision therapy. I do have sensorineural hearing loss, both sides.

So hope others will attempt/succeed with vision therapy. Can be researched on the 'net; one main provider is covd.org… and Indiana U has a great optometric site; of course there are more.
There is an ophthalmology site that notes vision therapy can be successful 3-6 months post-stroke. I began my therapy 22 months post-SAH and more…

Oystein…
I survived multiple leaks/ruptures mid-2003…I had 3 emergencies in 29 days. I sought PCP testing/diagnosis immediately following the first emergency; saw PCP again, the day before my second emergency.
Saw a number of other MDs between these two emergencies from neuro-whatever for EEG, neuro-radiologist and orthopedic specialsits for surgery to pin my right shoulder fractured during my first black-out/syncope related to the first emergency. The two emergencies were at a different hospital than the PCP/specialists.
Sister said I “refused” to go back for my third emergency; they took me to the hospital of the PCP/specialists.
I still have fatigue days; have attempted to document their pattern…and, it is inconsistent. I attempted to return to work…Yes, I could do the work; not maintain a schedule.
Below, I wrote a note in Jim’s spot on balance and my success with vision therapy…
You note you had re-coiling in 2008…did you have coiling 13 years ago?

Well now, you kno I have memory lapse…that I wrote to you twice tonight…I got side-tracked with a phone call earlier; and, just got back on…to answer you…not remembering I had sent you one…

i had a SAH in Feb. 2010. i was in hospital for 2 weeks the whole time in Neuro ICU. my surgeon is world renowned for his work in neurology. how lucky was i? was out of work for 4 months and am now back after taking a voluntary less stressful demotion. am still partially blind in my right eye from the bleeding but that is ok with me.

WoW- I had the same thing in 2008 and it left be blind in the right eye because of the pressure the recina had detached- I still will have to undergo another eye. I have not return to work because of my sight…God bless you!!1

Hi there mine was 9yrs ago and I still get headaches and dizzy spells. If ever you want to chat just get in touch. Jess.xxx

Hi Oysten, you can read my story in the Group / pipeline embolization device.
Take care of you.
Giovanni

I had a bleed and they coiled it, 11 yrs later I coiled again and also had a stent in place

I understand that you have had a very difficult time with this. Hope you are doing better now and I am sorry for not answering you earlier.

I am so sorry for not beeing able to answer you. I totally forgot obout this discussion. I did get coiled almost 15 yrs ago.

I could do with a chat, how does that work?

I heard about the new pipeline surgery, but unfortunatly I cant have that for my annie. They cant place it because I already have a stent in place. Im going in for my 3rd coiling next year.

I survived a subarchnoid hemorrage! It happened Oct. 17. My story is on my page if you want to read it. I still have 4 anneurysms that are being watched, 1 was coiled in May, another will be coiled in November and the other 2 they will watch. Such a scary thing to go through but I survived although my life as I knew it will never be the same. God Bless!! Marie

We all are different in healing and where the rupture was but i’m so happy to hear i’m not the only having some sort of trouble. I am dizzy to and i learned i have vertigo plus that comes from the blood around the brain during the rupture. I am considering a cane cause i cant really walk in open places. KEEP IN TOUCH.

i was told at the hospital i’m legally drunk but sober. I stagger all over to.
