Some help please

My dad had his surgery in mid-November. He had his brain aneurysm since 2008. When they found it it was 5mm. They didn’t want to do anything at the time but watch it to see if it grew. It was smack in the center of his brain and buldging on both sides. At the time they found it surgery was extremely risky. So they watched it every year and there was no growth until this past year. It was now at 7mm. They did an angiogram and then decided it was best to coil and stent. It is definitely a scary thing to go through, but my dad did great. Make sure you trust your doctor. We live in the US and my dad had a fabulous doctor that really took the time to weigh the risks and benefits. My dad ended up with 5 platinum coils and a stent. He took to it great… he’s 73!

I know your scared, but it’s not a death sentence. Just talk to your doctor… it’s better they found it now.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery!

Sorry for the late response, but I feel obligated to clarify your statement that aneurysms are asymptomatic. I’m not a doctor, and am not an expert of aneurysms but I survived a ruptured aneurysm about 10 years ago so I know the symptoms I experienced prior to my rupture. In my case, I had an aneurysm that was bleeding for a few weeks before it ruptured. During these two weeks I felt nauseous and was unable to extend my legs all the way. At the time I worked out and played tennis all the time so the three doctors that I saw told me it was probably just the flu and tight muscles. I am very fortunate that the rupture happened when I happened to be near a hospital with an excellent neurosurgery department and my life was saved. However, my rupture could have been avoided by a planned operation if my symptoms weren’t ignored.

Sorry to hear that. My consultant told me they are asymptomatic but from what you are saying your was bleeding before it ruptured so that puts it in a whole different category . I am not an expert I was simply relaying what my consultant told me. Mine wasn’t bleeding thankfully. I hope you have made a good recovery
