Remember to hydrate today! It makes the entire procedure much, much easier for you and the ones putting in the needles.
Today was surgery day. All went well and I’m out of recovery and in my hospital room for the night. I did have a hematoma at the groin in recovery which they took care of right away. Right now my groin area is a little tender - not bad - and my throat is a little scratchy from the breathing tube they used during surgery. Other that I feel fine. I have to admit that the anxiety leading up until they took me to the surgery room was up and down and at a couple points I almost decided to just change my mind and go home and do the wait and watch. I kept thinking why put myself (and my family) through this if there is such a small risk of rupture - it would have been so easy to just go home and go back to the life I knew instead of the fear of the unknown - but at the same time I knew that if I decided to watch and wait I would worry about every little pain and every year when they checked it I would be worried it had grown and I knew if it had grown it would have to be fixed anyway. Plus even though the risk of rupture was small the risk was still there and so many had ruptures even though it was small. Another friend also told me that he preferred to take control of his health instead of letting his health control him!! So now it’s done - the WEB coil is in place and this stupid thing can’t rupture now. Hopefully now I can just go on with my life and put this behind us. I re- read all these comments so many times and it really helped!! So thank you to all of you. Oct20 - I thought of you when I woke up and saw my husband huge relief. I will post a couple more updates over the next few days just in case someone else new gets on this site searching for answers. Maybe these comments will help them as much as it helped me. This site is amazing and you all are truly the best! Thank you so much .

What a wonderful post! Your words made me emotional , I have been thinking of you today and I told my husband that you will post something when you have the energy to do it. The hematoma in the groin, I’m glad to hear that they took care of it right away, that’s very important as the artery bleed a lot.
What a wonderful feeling to wake up knowing that it is over.
The day after I had my stent I was sent home in the afternoon. I slept for eight hours straight and when I woke up I was tearing up, it was such a relief to know that it was finally over.
Rest well and recover! Don’t rush yourself, you will still need some time to heal.
Thanks for the update @ccr-4
It’s done.
Now is a time to be kind to yourself. Take the time you need to fully recover. Don’t push it too far.
Remember, they have altered the blood flow in your brain and this can take time to normalize/adjust to. So, slowly, slowly is the best approach.

Great news! Thanks for the wonderful update and I’m sure a lot of people will read your journey. As Merl says, be kind to yourself. Rest when needed, absolutely stay hydrated and consume a lot of protein, our brains are high energy consumers, the highest in our body.
@ccr-4
I just wanted to touch base with you.
How are you doing? Is your recovery going well? How was your flight back to your home after the surgery?
Thank you for reaching out! So far it’s going well - better than I expected. I’ll provide probably more details then needed - but I figure it might help someone else down the road searching for answers - they way you and others in this chain helped me!!
I was released from the hospital the day after the procedure and flew home the day after that. I was nervous on take off because I wasn’t sure if I’d feel anything - but I didn’t feel anything unusual. Once home I slept almost a whole day. After that only had some minor tenderness for a couple days in the groin where they entered my vein. Still a lot of bruising there which is mostly from them getting rid of the hematoma in recovery but even that is better every day. I’m already back at work - but I sit at a computer all day so nothing strenuous. There has been no headaches - crossing my fingers that I don’t get any. I never suffered from headaches before but so many people were posting about headaches after so I wasn’t sure if I’d get them or it. I was having some blurry vision before the surgery and although the doctor said it wasn’t related to the aneurysm - I haven’t had any blurry vision post surgery. I was getting some random tingling sensations in my face prior to surgery which is actually what prompted the testing that found the aneurysm- the doctor said the facial tingling wasn’t related either. I am still getting the random tingling in my face but I am also getting it in my right fingers, left calf and foot, and tongue post surgery which had never happened before surgery. Since there were no severe symptoms I decided to just keep track of it since my body was still healing - and yesterday I didn’t get any of the tingling feelings in the hand or leg so we’ll see what happens with those in the coming days - I’m going to keep tracking it. The doctor has me on one baby aspirin for only a month then I can stop that. I was relieved to not have to continue to take blood thinners. I am so glad I went through with the procedure to have the WEB placed in the aneurysm- I just knew I couldn’t live my life worrying about that everyday. I am trying to just stay positive that there are no further issues until they do the follow up CT in 6 months. From the minute I found out about the aneurysm until I saw the image after the procedure that it was completely closed - everyday was a worry, hours of research, stress and anxiety about what to do - and now just relief and feeling happy. I can’t express enough how much your comments and guidance helped during this process as well as those from the others in this chain. I just hope I can help somebody some day they way you helped me!!

Thank you for the update! I’m so happy to hear that everything went great What a relief for you and your family! The feeling of knowing that the aneurysm is taken care of is wonderful! It will definitely help others to read what you have been through. This portal is so helpful for all of us, and I would like to thank you for your kind words. I was sometimes a bit worried that I had pushed you in a direction that you were not comfortable with so it is so great to hear from you again.
Take care and stay healthy
Thought I would provide an update on the original chain. I know when I was originally researching for information I always wanted to read current status, if known.
I had a CT angiogram test completed 2 weeks ago for the 6-month follow up to my WEB embolization basilar tip aneurysm repair. I just had a video meeting with the Mayo Clinic (who did the original repair surgery). Results of the CTA confirmed that the WEB continues to be perfectly placed. There is no residual and no issues. I was told to live a normal life without restrictions and they will order another CTA review in 1 year. Best possible news!!
@ccr-4
Congratulations!! What a relief knowing that everything is stable and the wonderful words from your doctor.
I’ll have my four year follow up this fall with an MRI with and without contrast and a meeting with my neurosurgeon. Hopefully I will get the same positive results as you have.
Excellent! Thanks for sharing!
Let us know how you do !!
Hi Peter - I had SAC for unruptured ICA on 18th and still feel very tired- how was your recovery if I may ask
