Hello everybody, I went for a second opinion to the University of Miami (I live near Fort Lauderdale). My last Angiogram showed an Abnormality on the left side. My original Dr. said it needs to be watched, its either an infundibulum or a growing aneurysm. An infundibulum as explained in my former posts is just a deformed blood vessel and nothing to worry about, an Aneurysm as we all know is very dangerous. Now I went to this Doctor in Miami who is a 100% sure it is an infundibulum. He seems to think I just need a check up at the end of the year, mainly for the ruptured coiled one on the right side and if it shows the same as now I should have the next check up in 3 years. Not sure how one Dr. can determine an infundibulum a 100% while the other is not sure.....I definitely feel better to think its just an infundibulum....did anybody have something similar? I mean I will checkup anyway....just to be safe.
Hi and Thank you for sharing....it is good you got this second opinion...I have heard very good things about the University of Miami...wishing you a good Sunday ~ Colleen
Me too that's why I went there...and its only 25 miles south for me...so I am considering to switch....this Doctor seemed very confident in what he was talking about....Have a good Sunday too!
Chrissi- I had the same dilemma - it was determined to be a infundibulum and require a "check up" in 4 years (from date of determination). Long story- I went to see a neurologist (for a follow-up on advice of a new PCP, different city, different hospital affiliation (3rd city)..) Ultimately, it was determined to be an Infun.- I totally trust the surgeon who clipped me- he has a stellar reputation- (my records from the first hospital stated that there was another aneurysm or infund.- but, this was the same hospital that told my family there was no chance for me!) I didn't understand why they had to run ALL new tests- I, literally, have thousands of images from my hospitalization- and this was within 6 months of my discharge- like I said, long story- good luck-D
Hello Chrissi,
You know after you and I chatted last week ...I dug out my 1998 aneurysm paperwork which included the Angiograms just to review the exact wording of the Radiologists report...It reads..:" there is a prominent infundibulum at the origin of the right posterior communicating artery, but there is no evidence of aneurysm formation at this time"...
My Neurosurgeon never bothered to inform me of this infundibulum that was in my brain...I had no idea there was a possible issue that I should have, by all rights, been keeping an eye on, and no one gave me the heads up on it. I found out ofcourse (the hard way ! lol) 8 years later...so its good that you at least know about this being a possibility. And I agree with you, I don't know how the one doctor can say with %100 assured accuracy that your infundibulum will never amount to an aneurysm, I'm glad you are pro-active in your health to seek another opinion . Truthfully I didn't realize until right after I joined this Site ( and re-read my 98 paperwork), that the infundibulum even existed or that I had such a thing...I was a bit surprised and rather ticked off that the 98 surgeon never even brought it up to me back then, nor did he think it necessary for me to have follow-up angiograms. Anyhoo, just venting now, so I'd best stop! Lol, take care, Janet
