Questions on possible second aneurysm

So my father had a BA rupture 5 years ago. We had an angiogram in 2023 that had shown no changes. However, we completed an MRA today, and the radiology report described “definitive stenosis and possible saccular anerysum to report.” Has anybody else gotten news that they have another anerysum like this? if so what are the steps proceeding this? how did he obtain another one?

Hey Brianna! I’ve moved your topic from the “about the General category” to the General category. You can change the title if you like, no worries. I’ve got a myriad of changes in my brain since I ruptured. I’ve not had any imaging that suggested another aneurysm, I’ve had a few that weren’t great but my surgeon reviewed them and either explained what was read incorrectly (one time they put another pt in my records) or gave me a diagnostic angiogram to see what was really going on.

I imagine your dad’s doctor will decide on waiting (usually six months) and having another MRA, but that’s a guess. He may do one earlier or he may decide to do an angiogram. Unfortunately, we who’ve ruptured, can develop more aneurysms and they can develop anywhere in our body. I haven’t read anything on exactly why we get them, there’s lots of theories floating around.

How is your Dad doing? How are you?

He’s still struggling unfortunately. He isn’t really progressing, and he has now developed fecal incontinence. We don’t know what to do anymore.

That’s tough! What has the doctor said about the fecal incontinence? There can be so many different causes. Medication, damage to that part of the brain, constipation, gosh the list goes on.

Hopefully he has a home health care team to help y’all out. Take care of yourself first it’s the only way to be able to care for others. Enjoy a hobby every day. I know @FinWhaleFan has kindly reminded us the importance of staying off of electronics. Hard to do when society seems to be all about them now. There is a plethora of research on Art Therapy that shows just what @FinWhaleFan suggests, so grab a coloring books and some colored pencils or pens and take some me time!

We are always here any time you need to vent or just have someone who gets it.

I wish he did have home health. We don’t qualify for anything and it’s been really hard. We do utilize adult coloring books to keep his creative mind active. His PCP has no explanation for his incontinence & hasn’t helped us address it

Crap! Ask his PCP to refer him to a GI doc so he’ll get in faster, or you can call one and ask for an appointment. I know mine only takes referrals now, she’s gotten quite popular since she first started.

Hi Brianna. Sorry I’m reading this so late but I had another aneurysm pop up after going years with just my original two. It does happen although fortunately it’s not frequent. So sorry for all you are dealing with. Prayers for your Dad and you as well :folded_hands:

You and your family are amazing. As a caregiver myself I know how difficult some days can be. Forgive me you have looked into this already. Here in Michigan AgeWays has some respite care based on a sliding scale. Here is the link for the national website to find Your local chapter https://www.usaging.org .
My county Commission on Aging also has some senior resources including home care based sliding income scale. :victory_hand:
