Hearing loss

I would like to know if anyone has had any problems with hearing loss since their aneurysm?

D'Nell...

W/o a doubt...hearing loss and visual loss (hemianopsia and more) ...I have for sometime promoted the hearing tests...and vision tests...should be done soon after treatments...by neuro-oph and neurotology...

Post Treatment of the minimally invasive procedure(s)...non-invasive hearing tests were done three diff days... On transfer to home health care (HHC) those forms note hearing loss ...which is not qualified in the maintained written records...nor in the discharge records...for the caregivers...

Later, I saw both specialists...delayed timing from discharge (HHC therapist did not discuss/address either hearing loss or hemianopsia during her limited therapy time) Neither neuro-doc cross-ref'd the inner ear to the vision muscle control ...

Yesterday, 01/27/14, I noted in "ask-the doc" the article on brain-death tests... one of which notes the inner ear and vision muscle connection...tho the article did not qualify the cranial nerve(s) by name/#...

These perhaps are being done...by some neuro-centers...to aid care / recovery...it does not appear to be common...the results of the three days of non-invasive hearing tests are not described in my maintained written records...that suggest excellent results, at least insignificant/unremarkable status of the minimally invasive procedures...

I do hope for answers in "ask the doc"...and, that you get answers from your docs for referral to the appropriate testing for you...your test results may be completely different than mine...

Wishing you the best...

Thanks for the info. Pat. Are you saying that you have hearing loss, too, after your aneurysm?

I have been wearing hearing aids for about 2 years. My audiologist believes that the loss is due partly to the aneurysm (nerve damage). However, when I was a young child I experienced a concussion due to an auto accident and when I was a teenager I suffered a broken ear drum. A lot of head trauma and I think the aneurysm was just the tip of the iceberg as far as my hearing loss is concerned.

Good luck with your findings. Let me know the outcome.

D'Nell...

I had no hearing loss...did have reg glasses...tho could see/function w/o them...into mid-20s before needing basic glasses...tho I did have the double vision while in high school...and had therapy then...not glasses or prisms...

Your history...could possibly track w/"Mixed"...in the Types of Hearing Loss in the forum...apx a page away...if you missed it...

Had you had hearing tests following your concussion and the MVA?

Was any therapy and/or hearing aids provided then?

How long after your annie treatment?...coil, stent or open surgery?

I had no hearing loss prior to minimally invasive coiling... and, very limited need for glasses... After the first f/up angio...my sight went to hellth...tho there is quite a story to that...

Please keep us updated...I think it is so needed for this data to come forth... for the decision process...

After about 18years since my surgery to clip an annie, I started having hearing loss in left ear. It is now 20 years and loss has increased. I am investigating solutions. Also, 2 years before my aneurysm burst, my friend in Florida also had surgery to clip the bleed and is now completely deaf in both ears. She then had cochlear implants which worked for only a few months.
