Giant aneurysms, what treatment did you have and did it cure your giant aneurysm?

I have an unruptured 23mm terminus ica fusiform aneurysm. When I was in the hospital, PA/NPs rounding for the neurosurgeon assured me that flow diversion is a straightforward procedure with high success rate. I would get the flow diverter, spend a night in the ICU and go home the next day and live a normal life.

I’ve come to find that this is not the case at least for me right now. My vision on the side with the aneurysm has deteriorated to where I can’t read out of that side. My first flow diverter ended up migrating and I needed a second flow diverter. I’ve been on triple anticoagulants and having nose bleeds and bruising daily

For this who’ve had larger more complex aneurysms, how has your journey been? Have you healed?

Thank you for creating your first topic! I can’t help with giant aneurysms, mine was a wee little one at 5mm. It did have more than 24 daughters as my neurosurgeon stopped counting at 24. It’s been a bear to repair.

@oct20 shared a test that can be done with Plavix I think it was, perhaps she will come and share her extensive knowledge. I would reach out and let the doctor know about the bleeding and bruises. Mine took me off the Plavix within a few weeks due to all the bruising I had after my stent was installed. Some I knew what I did like bumping into the wall or Ohana (totally my fault since I taught her to jump on me not being able to bend over to put her collar on) but most who knew? BH told Dr. Q-W someone could look at me and I’d bruise.

Have you been tested how you react to the Plavix medication? It’s called the P2Y12 (Plavix)TEST.

I was on Plavix and a high dose of Aspirin when I got my stent. It turned out that I am a “high responder” on Plavix, a genetic thing that some of us have. I still remember when we were driving back home from the hospital where I had had the test, it took only about five minutes and the nurse called me and asked me how I was feeling, did I bleed or bruise easily? My levels were too low and I ended up taking only half a Plavix pill every third day for the rest of the time I had this medication.

You can ask your doctor about this.

I hope you don’t have to stay on this medication for a long time. I’m only on a daily Baby Aspirin for the rest of my life.

Good luck with your recovery.

Mine wasn’t as large (17mm) I had a full metal jacket stent put in with smaller stents at either end to hold the 2 over lapped stents in place. So far I have healed well enough to stop taking the anticoagulants and just take aspirin. I’ve had a vision disturbance in my left eye but found a great neuro ophthalmologist who has helped a great deal with prism glasses. I have some balance issues but I feel better every day. I hope the docs find a procedure that works for you! Don’t give up, it took 7 years of seeing different doctors and alot of imaging to find the right solution for me.
