Just wanted to provide an update. I had my first follow-up angiogram yesterday. I was very nervous going in because I knew I wasn’t being put under. The team was awesome and made me feel comfortable. I thought for sure they would be going through my groin because they did when they placed the Seal-it web device in for my embolization of my anterior communicating artery because they couldn’t go through the wrist; however, this time they were able to go through my right wrist.
I am happy to report there was no residual filling or recurrence in this one year follow up angiogram of the right A1-A2 junction aneurysm! Yay!!
However, they were also going to check the right V3 dissection and also the 1.5mm x 1.5mm with 1.5mm Anterior choroidal artery aneurysm that was also found in my angiogram procedure during the embolization last year.
I didn’t have a chance to have a conversation with the doctor and no more appts scheduled. I am confused as they are now calling that additional aneurysm a right anterior choroidal artery infundibulum. From what I read an infundibulum and an aneurysm can be very different… and there are no measurements this time or mention of the dissection. I know this all is good news but I’ve been stressed about this additional aneurysm for a year. So I’m just wondering if anyone has had something similar or any thoughts on this? I will probably end up reaching out.. I just always feel like an annoying patient that has to follow-up on everything.
Never ever feel like an annoying patient. If they get short with you (they shouldn’t but humans are weird after all) just remind them you are your own advocate that needs simple layman’s terms. When is your follow up appointment with someone on the surgeon’s team? I usually but not always had a follow up appointment to discuss the findings.
Definitely reach out through your portal and ask all the questions you want answered. It may have been an oversight or something the doctor didn’t think was necessary. Never hurts to ask a question, I go back to the old adage learned in Elementary School, the only dumb question is the one that’s not asked.
That is super odd that there is no follow-up appointment to discuss [I ALWAYS had one!], and I am confident it was an accidental oversight. I like to give them some grace as they are such busy people, but I have a strong sense it was not intentional by any means.
Honestly that was probably one of the biggest growth experiences for me during this journey, and that has been learning to advocate for myself. I have learned how to do it in my style, but please do NOT hesitate to reach out to them. You have the right to know what is happening within you!
MOST importantly, congrats on the great news!! Something wonderful to celebrate, and I am so happy for you!!!
So thanks to all of you - I reached out and had a virtual appointment this morning. He’s very impressed and happy with the occlusion of the Seal-It device which I’m happy with too as I volunteered to be in the trial for this device after a lot of research and conversation. Doc says that he’s seeing a lot of good and ease come from it.
The infundibulum that they mentioned in this years angiogram is in fact an aneurysm.. not sure why it was labeled that way. It was a day of a snow storm and they were short staffed with no full OR team so maybe rushed through I’m guessing. I was able to see both images from last year to this year, no growth on that aneurysm on my anterior choroidal. So that’s good news too that I will take because it is small.
Dissection they didn’t want to mess with because sometimes it can cause things to be worse. So no true update on that. He did mention probably another MRA in six months even though I wasn’t supposed to have another test until my angiogram in 2027.
I will say my recovery and the procedure were not bad at all so far. I’m very happy with that. It was scary being aware and not sedated fully but they did a good job keeping me comfortable and at ease. I’m very happy with my team.
I’m forever grateful for all of you and this community too! thanks again for pushing me to reach out!
I ruptured 12 years ago. I had yearly MRI’s for a few years but during covid I got “lost” in the system. I did call the hospital wondering why I wasn’t still getting yearly appointments and they told me that my file got lost. Well they put me back in the system, I had my scan and now I don’t have to go back for 5 years. It’s best if you advocate for yourself!
Hi Tahara. Thank you for the update. I dont always have follow up appointments after many angiograms and MRIs. Thats because there wasn’t anything wrong. Sometimes you only get follow up appointments if they find something unusual in the angiogram. To put your mind at rest just contact your doctor. Good luck with everything.
