Feedback on my wife’s Stent & Coil Operation

Following the operation on the 29th Sept thought this feedback might help others….

My wife’s wide necked MCA unruptured aneurysm was successfully treated by endovascular placing of a closed umbrella type stent through the neck, this was then opened to provide support for the subsequent coiling.

Thankfully the surgeon, who was brilliant throughout, thought that the umbrella version was safer than placing a tube stent outside the aneurysm which had 3 other artery connections close by.

The surgeon thought the operation went very well and reported that the aneurysm had grown a little perversely helping the stent placement and underlining the need for intervention. Anti-coagulants are not required because of this approach with aspirin daily for the next 8 weeks. A follow up MRI is being scheduled for 6 months time.

I was really nervous and scared both before the operation

She was released from hospital after only one night and was in bed at home the next day, each day since has seen more and more improvement and energy. Now some 11 days since the op she is out and about going down town shopping and carrying out her normal daily activities.She has stopped struggling to find words and there is no longer awkward pauses in her conversation, plus her tinnitus has all but disappeared but is still sensitive to brighter light and louder noises.

Without wishing to tempt fate here, her bravery, the technology and the surgeon can only be described as remarkable.

Bob, do you know the name of that umbrella stent? It may be helpful to other members. I’m really happy to read all went well!

Hi,

Sorry I don,t, the surgeon only referred to it as “umbrella”.

Thank you for your kind thoughts & good wishes.

Kind Regards,

Bob

Good for her and you! Thanks so much for the update. I imagine the light and noise sensitivity will be a thing of the past for her as she’s doing so well. In the meantime she can find a pair of sunglasses that the lens helps mitigate the light and turn the television down is always helpful.

@BobF

Just FYI, I’ve edited your two posts together into this conversation and deleted the other snippet, so you’ve only got one line of conversation to follow. Hope that helps.
