Hello everyone. tomorrow I will be 3 weeks post coiling an unruptured aneurysm. So I have had this thing I think I can trace it to before the OP. But now it’s become frequent, especially at night when I lay my head down and sometimes during the day if I lay down. Please note I’m outside the US right now and English isn’t an official language here, so I am having trouble constructing how or what to tell the doctor/which doctor.
I have this sensation where it feels like in my head/scalp, predominantly my right side (my aneurysm was in my left side). The feeling is like water/fluid/oil “dripping” or like an insect crawling.. it’s a few minutes at a time and I usually sleep, so I don’t know if it continues or not. It’s not painful or anything, but feels like some kind of movement. I don’t know what this is.. I’m not on any mediation right now, just take Tylenol when I experience a headache. So please help me because no one around me understands what am saying and I don’t think I’m losing my mind or imagining this, I just feel defeated.
And then my hair started falling off on one spot, bottom right of my head. My neuro says it’s stress, the dermatologist said it’s alopecia and is running some tests to see if I have something that’s attacking those hair follicles… so it’s been a lot of these little things and I’m beginning to be weary.
I understand what you’re saying, it doesn’t sound like an enjoyable experience. Have you tried telling the docs exactly how you’re sharing it here?
We have a lot of members from different countries, one of them might be able to help you with the language barrier. Do you mind sharing what country you’re in? It’s the only way a member could help, I think.
3 weeks out isn’t very long. Are you staying hydrated and eating plenty of protein, resting when needed? If your aneurysm was repaired in the country you’re at now, tell the surgeon. If you had it repaired here in the States, send a message via your portal and ask. If you have a Neurologist ask them. Also ask your dermatologist since you have one, maybe it’s something to do with your hair follicles.
HI! I am sorry that you are going through this! I can only relate to the hairloss! no one told me that this was going to happen, so I was alarmed when tons of hair started falling out, about three weeks post-surgery. I had endovascular? Where they go up to the brain through the femoral artery in the leg. My hair is still not the same, but it is a little better than it was.. I was told it was from the stress as well, but it has been three years. Hang in there. I am so sorry there is that language barrier. You must feel alone.? This is such a great site and I am new here, but I suspect someone will find you help, from this site ! This is a God send! God Bless!
My aneurysm was clipped with open surgery and the doctor told me I would experience the “water dripping” on my scalp/head that would last a short time. I did have it and it lasted a few weeks. It has something to do with nerves healing if I remember correctly. About hair, mine did not fall out but did regrow white in the surgery spot and then it eventually returned to the same color as the rest of my hair. I also had a coils put in 4 years before that and did not have any of these symptoms with that. I only had them with the open surgery. Your neuro should be able to explain the “dripping” feeling.
Like Viv22, I too had a clipping via a craniotomy and then three weeks later I experienced the “dripping” sensation. It felt like liquid was running down from my forehead and then trickling down my face. A very strange feeling that had me feeling my face to see if it really was wet. I read a neurosurgeon’s article that said the sensations are caused by nerve damage. I only felt it a few times and I was glad that I’d read it was a possibility or I might have felt crazy.
I hope you have some luck with the language barrier and they can confirm that it is a similar for you and a result of some nerves temporarily going a bit haywire.
Hi, i had a similar hair loss challenge which started 2-3 weeks post my endovascular coiling. My doctor said it can be a side-effect of extensive radiation during the endovascular procedure. I developed a bald patch at the top of my head. Good news is it all came back after 3 months. Take care
