Sara I had not seen your reply.I thank you for your good words. The fact that two people do not know each other but they know exactly how the other feels is amazing.I deeply wish your father, you and the rest of your family the best.i it is no disturbance I would like to keep in touch. It is as if I just found a good friend. You are many steps ahead so your experience would be very helpfull.Have a good night.
SAMANTHA!!! I owe you an email!!! We had a meeting with my dad's rehab team two days after you emailed me so I wanted to wait for that before I gave you an update. They gave us some not so good news and we were all very upset the next couple days (turned out to be a mistake! UGH!). Anyway, your email must have gotten buried in all the confusion, but this message reminded me about it! Glad to hear your dad is continuing to recover. Is he home yet?
You can email me any time: ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■
I am doing well - thank you. I think choosing the "miraculous" route is the great one for he is truly a miracle. I too was deemed wheelchair bound and my wonderful husband built a ramp and readied the house but with a great team of therapist kicking my butt I graduated to a wheeled walker, then a cane and now nothing but my own 2 feet. I am still weak on my right side and tire easily, but that is my "new normal" and gladly accept it over the alternative. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family - your Dad is lucky to have such a loving and caring daughter.
Mary
Thanks Mary! Can I ask how long it took you to go from the wheelchair to walking? Did that all happen in rehab, or over the course of a year or two? Thanks and best wishes!
I was discharged in a wheelchair in August and was walking the end of February...August, September and October I had home rehab - that was mostly focused on strengthening. Started rehab in a facility in November and continued with that 3 days a week through January. Had to stop then because of a surgery...but kept up with exercising and was able to walk the end of February. It can be done - definitely not an easy task, but worth the effort.
That's wonderful Mary - so very happy for you!
Thank you :) Please keep me posted on your Dad.
I agree- I believe that if you work at it- the improvements will continue for many years
