Clipping through the nose?

I was told back in 2010 that I had a 4.4mm aneurysm and that watching and waiting was the best thing to do at the time. I was good for 3 years my annie had almost no growth. However, I was recently told that in 1 year it grew almost 3 mm's. Now that it is a 7mm annie I was told it would be a good idea to treat it. I have some issues with coiling and feel clipping is more of a permanent option. My Dr. told me I might be a good candidate for clipping through the nose. I think this must be a fairly new way to do this because I can't find much on the subject. If anyone has anything on this type of procedure that would be so great.

Thank You..

Shay...recently I found info on nasal related surgery...and, thru the sphenoid bone...

the sphenoid bone forms our eye sockets and the nasal area and holds the cavity of the pituitary...

So suggest you call your surgeon back and ask how long that procedure has been used...in total and specific to aneurysms...Then, please share it back with all of us... I took a quick glance ('cuz I could not remember why there was a tiny memory spot on it)...some come up with endoscopic trans-something...

and, then sphenoidal comes up...We may all learn more...

For my high curiosity in learning and learning...which artery and its segment is your aneurysm located?

Prayers for your right research, comfort, discussion w/your doc and your final decision...and, all related...

Pat

Unfortunately, I was not able to get any new information on this procedure. It turns out I'm not a good candidate for it so the Dr. that does the surgery referred me to another Dr. I did get that it is fairly new and if the aneurysm is in a favorable spot it is a great option rather then coiling. He said it is on the rise and we will be hearing about it more and more. Sorry I couldn't get more info on it.

Shay...thanks much...

Did they explain the favorable spot?...just my little bit of research...makes me think it would be the internal carotid and any of the two main branches, the ophthalmic and/or the posterior communicating...

It just sounds so exciting to me ...

Thanks,

Pat

I just answered you in your other post...I have never heard of clipping through the nose area...did you find anything on the net about this procedure ? ~ Colleen

Wow that's interesting. I've never heard of it. I had a non ruptured aneurysm clipped in September. I had the craniotomy and from the looks of the dents and shapes near my left eye it looks like that's where they cut through my skull (it's a cool little circle). I don't know...I have to stop touching it. I'll be asking my Doc more in a few weeks. Anyway when they entered my skull I know they had to cut through my sinus cavity to get to the aneursym. After the clipping, they plugged the sinus cavity with belly fat. Eew. I tried telling them they should have taken more...

Harly...interesting...thanks for sharing...

You really added logic to the bases of open surgery/clip...to belly fat transfer...that really adds to my opinion to avoid the minimally invasive coiling...besides skipping the tortuous turns in the arteries, the need of stents (more than clips in open surgery!)...to attempt to heal the dissections at the tortuous turns...

Hugs...your smile always brings my smiles forward...
