Does anyone know as an aneurysm patient if it is OK to give blood.
Hey Laura!
You know what, NO is the answer I was given in regards to us giving blood...I, for the life of me, can't tell you the reasoning behind this..so I looked it up on the RedCross website ..
What I found is as long as you don't have extremely high or low blood pressure, and as long as you're not on blood thinners (Plavix, Coumadin, Xeralto, Warfarin, etc) you should be okay in order to give blood. If you're on any anti-depressants I believe they say you should be off of them at least 14 days before donating, but no where in the website on the RedCross did it say yay or nay to Aneurysm Survivor eligibility criteria....
Hope this helps, Take care Laura !
Peace, Janet
Thank Janet.
I sent a message to the surgeons office and they said go for it. I would like to give back to those who have given me their blood over the years. Still need to run it by my PCP and then I should be good to go.

Thanks Jim. Looking forward to doing the same.
Like Janet I was told "no"...I was given a blood transfusion from all the blood lost during coiling and wanted to give back when I was healed...they told me I will n""ever be able to give blood and I never asked "Why?" because of the look on Doctor and PA face...wishing you a good day ~ Colleen
Hi Colleen,
Several years ago I was told no as well, and now the answer is yes. Go figure.
Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for the information Laura...
Hi ,we are now in 2018 and on the British web site , it states that if you have a Berry aneurysm ring up and they will discuss it but if you have a brain aneurysm then simply no - confusion or what ,I’ve donated for years and have a 15mm Fusiform Annie that won’t be operated and is not life threatening so they say .there is no where I can get further info on WHY you can’t donate.
