I too had some balance problems. I live in Anderson, SC and my neurologist sent me to Balance Rehab. It did wonders for me. Goolgle, neurocon balance , I think that was the name of the gadget that put me in. I wore a harness and the walls and floor moved and I had to keep a little man a video screen in a red box. They also gave me eye execises to do with a piece of material with lines on it. It is called Vestibular disorder. Google that and you will get info. Hope this helps. Robyn
Chris...I just noted on Martha Taylor's forum...
Google cranial nerves / anatomy...CN XIII - vestibulocochlear nerve...the vestibulo relates to balance...there are interconnections w/various nerves...I also have hearing loss from the minimally invasive coiling procedure and I did have success regaining balance thru vision therapy for my extreme vision deficits... Both my L/R inner ears are damaged and have hearing loss...It was apx a year post-coiling that I had complete auditory testing...
Martha had clip...so...cranial nerves do not have options of what affects them...
I keep hoping the BAF main site will add info on cranial nerves...and the potential issues... because many many of us experience(d) the balance loss...
chris, I only have my personal experiences,...neuro-oph and ENT test results and benefits of therapy...
Wishes and prayers for your success in addressing your balance issues w/your MDs... and secure appropriate testing and therapy to help regain balance...
Pat
Hi Robyn
Many thanks for your help. I haven't heard of that method and will look into it.
Many thanks
Chris
Thank Pat
I'll be taking this info to my Neuro surgeon
Cheers
Chris
Robyn...so pleased for you...for your results...your personal benefit from a top neurologist...
Google cranial nerves / anatomy...and on to CN XIII...
I was so overwhelmed when my dedicated vision therapy regained my balance...there is a connection... possibly CN III...oculomotor... something like that... I am excited to know of yours including eye exercises!!! for confirmation of the benefits of vision therapy which I have been attempting to promote for a long time...
The ENT specialist who did my auditory testing...addressed inner ear loss; L and R, apx 30%... and never addressed balance issues related to the vestibulo portion of CN XIII...
You have brought me joy...for the confirmation of vision therapy / eye exercises... mine even achieved reading/comprehension...Yes...I- could - read - each -word....I just could not have told you what I read or what it meant... yet, I coudl ahve said hello to you..what a nice day, etc...
Member after member here has addressed loss of balance and it has been so ignored...
Hugs and prayers for your continued successes...a hug to thank your neurologist...and prayers that we may continue to promote the need for therapy to regain balance...
Pat
I wish that help you but I have that problem to.
Hi Chris...I hope you address this symptom with your Neurologist...and keep us posted...you seem to have gotten alot of help here and I don't have anything else to add...~ Gotcha in my thoughts ~ Colleen
Bateman, I too lack body balance, soo bad, fall on a regular basis. Need more detailed info. Covered by Ins. length of theropy, local neurologist, will appreciate.
Hi Folks
Just an update: I'm visiting a physio who specialises in balance issues sometime this week or next. I'll keep you all posted as to the outcome.
Cheers
Chris
Chris..I am so excited...and, awating your update...
I lost at least two years of recovery w/not having this therapy earlier...quickly...in Rehab..
I still mentally visualize my neurologist...his feet fleeting w/the waves (walks on water...at any scale!)
Hugs and prayers for your results and update...

So sorry to leave you hanging. I will find all my info they gave me and reply. I know they said I had a VESTIBULAR DISORDER. You can google that and find interesting stuff. The name of the gadget they put me in was called Neuracom Balance. I will find out more about it today since I will be at the Health Campus where I had my balance therapy. Who knew there was such a thing. I am so thankful for my neurologist who sent me there. It really did help. The exercises they gave me with the piece of material with lines helped too. They gave me advice on what to do when you get dizzy, like focus on one spot on the wall and other stuff I just can't remember right now. I will let you know more later today. Hang in there, at least you know there is something that may help. It sure helped me. They said I may have to come in from time to time for a tune up. It has been about a year and I probably need to go back, I am starting to have some of the same issues. Not as bad though. Insurance did cover it. I will find out about that too. I live in Anderson, SC. My neurologist here is DR. Kerr. My surgery was at EMory in Atlanta.
Robyn...thank you so much for sharing so much... qualifying the vestibular disorder...
Thank you on the f/ups, too...I get mini checks w/my annual vision check...(hope this makes sense thru my words) ....
As for the hearing loss/issues; I do that ENT f/up every several years...I have not had advanced (more/greater) hearing loss...tho cannot regain what was lost...
Thank you so much for noting Neuracom Balance...easy to google... a/w/a PositScience and its Brain Fitness program... somehow termed "re-paving around the auditory nerve..." and also google vision therapy...
I have tried so hard, and, have not had, the ability to gain others' interest in vision therapy.
Hugs and prayers for your continued recovery and for helping others w/the potential of getting closer to therapies...
Pat
