I had 2 different aneurysms coiled 5 years ago within 6 months of each other. I have 4 kids and know exactly how you feel, they were 3, 5, 9 & 13. Just know everything will work out on the end and try to take it easy, even though your nerves never will. Your kids will be your biggest support system!!!
You will be fine, and it's a lot better than not having it done and having it potentially rupture!
Hi Kim,
I had a an aneurysm 2 years ago when I was 24 years old it ruptured right before I was about to go for a run a lost my speech and feeling on my left side, I was given a very low chance of living and I had a coiling procedure done along with another procedure I'm now 26 years old walking, living life, and pregnant and truly the happiest and healthiest I have ever been. You are truly blessed that they found it on time and are taking the right measures to keep you healthy. You will be fine I promise and your kids will always have their mommy with them :) Stay positive keep your head up and look at the positive side of everything always, they caught it on time and are doing the right thing to keep you healthy. May God Bless you and let us know how everything goes. Thoughts and prayers with you <3
I had coiling done 8 years ago mine had ruptured , no real side effects, except my smell has never been the same, no big deal.I had recoiling 2013 as I had a residual. All good, I just keep having check ups, my last check last year now donāt have to go for 2 years now.keep positive.
Kim,
I had a coiling done on a 6mm aneurysm in 2005. Not going to say it was a "piece of cake", but wasn't nearly as hard as I had thought it would be, the dreading really was the worst part. What you know of the procedure isn't really anything different than having an angiogram done, except you do get to go all the way asleep. The same "don't lift your leg" for several hours, etc., but you get to sleep a good part of it so that part is easier.
Being almost eleven years later....the thing I remember the most was being so tired for the first week or two. I thought I was fine after a couple weeks and was really upset that my surgeon wouldn't sign my release to go back to work right away, but after 6 weeks when I did go back I understood why, I couldn't believe how exhausted I was! I think I needed more sleep for the next few months, I usually came home from work and had to take a quick nap before I could get dinner. I was fortunate that my children were all grown and I had excellent support from them and my hubby.
I know it's a "huge" event for us, but for the surgeons it's an every day happening and very routine.
I'll be praying for you and yours, for you to have the peace that passes understanding, the most important thing to know is that Jesus loves you dearly and He's got you covered!

Hi Kim
I had a SAH from a burst aneurysm in September 2015. My coiling was amazing and you can barely believe anything has been done to you.
I had a few weeks of headaches, but this was due to the leaked blood so you probably wonāt get those.
At nearly five months on, Iām almost back to normal.
Good luck to you, but you will be fine!
Jayne xx
I truly thank you all SO much for all your supportive messages, prayers, and kind words. It helps so much!!!
Hi Kim,
I have a 30mm giant aneurysm that I had stented in oct. Iām just about to have my 4 month MR scan. I understand completely how you feel I was terrified as I am on my own with my 7 year old son. 4months on I can tell you I have just started to feel like my sparkle is coming back. Itās not easy it takes a lot of strength I had all sorts of side effects and a lot of head pain but when I spoke to my surgeon she told me this was positive as it indicates it is shrinking this made it all easier to bare. Try to stay positive and donāt be afraid to say afterwards when you need time as people often forget as there are no bandages! I know your fear but you will be fine, it can work out, although itās still early days for me I am hopeful, take care, tracy
Hi Kim, Just read your post and wish to advise as follows!
I have had two different aneurysms coiled and stented in the last 2 years!
The procedure itself is straight forward and there is nothing to be worried about at all, you will go in, have the best sleep ever, wake up and job done!
I had no side effects at all and went home the next morning, with No I repeat No side effects at all!
One was in the Basilar region 8mm and the other was Ophthalmic 6mm.
What you need to do is chill big time, there is nothing to worry about at all, you will laugh when the job is done and wonder why you worried in the first place.
Also in the grand scheme of things 4mm is considered to be small!
I attach for your info a document which outlines the biggest study ever done on Un-ruptured Aneurysms, read it, open up the sub sections of the document as well as there is good information there.
In conclusion CHILL! HAVE A GOOD SLEEP, waken up and job done and sorted!
Keep us updated after the proceedure.
Kind Regards
Martinc

Kim,
It's a scary thing but you'll be just fine, really you will. I had an 11mm bleeder (big bleed!) seven years ago and I'm just fine. You will be fine and you won't go through a lot of pain or difficulty. Take some time to really rest. Get some help with those kids if you can. Please write to me after the operation, tell me how things are going for you.
David
I will be praying for you Kim!
Kim, 2 years ago I had 2 coiled and stented on each side of my brain. It's a road and so far so good!
I had an emergency rupture. I do attend a group meeting once every two months and I here allot of stories about what your going to have done. It's all positive stuff. They already know what you have where its at, the size, they have all the info they need to go in and get out right away. You will be fine. Good luck hope this helps you relax some. keep me / us posted.
Thank you for all your responses. Iām still super nervous. I think mainly because Iām in this gret area of it being 4mmā¦and most 4mm ones seem to me a āwatch and waitā thingā¦so I thinkā¦am I jumping the gun? Just reacting out of anxiety and fear.
But then can I live with the anxiety of worrying about it?? And at being only 33 years oldā¦Iām thinking the odds of it changing are good over the years.
I want to have the surgery, just so scared of something going wrong. My surgeon is supposed to be the best in the areaā¦he is highly looked uponā¦but he is also very straightforward about the risks of the procedureā¦and the risks scare me. Are all surgeons just this way?
I am pleased to see that so many of you have had such great outcomes with the surgery, and I thank you all for sending me prayers and well wishes.
I too had one coiled. the best prep you can do is to have fruit frozen pop cycles to reduce the possibly nausea from the a thesis. Min took me under for five hours. I donāt know if the cold from the pop cycle was the diversion but have frozen pop cycles helped me with nausia. at the wort you will have a frozen treat waiting for you. you will do absolutely wonderful isnāt it amazing with what they can do. I had and have novo
complicaionss

Hi,
I had my first rupture when I was 48, my kids were 7 and 8 at the time. This was 13 years ago and the procedure went very well even in my condition. But to have young children its hard. I've had a second rupture which occurred 3 years ago when I was 58. It was not correctly diagnosed until an angiegram I had at Mayo in Jacksonville Fla a year ago in Jan. 2015. So.... in Feb. 2015 I had another coiling it went very smoothly, no pain, one night in the hospital. I had great care 13 years ago, so you can imagine how far they have come in 2015.T
he procedure as you can guess has already been improved many times over. You'll do great. Coiling before a rupture is a life saver. I feel so blessed.
I would consider that a good thing that your surgeon is straightforward. When my wife had her ruptured annie coiled four years ago, they were frank with us. It's better to know the worst and not experience it than to have it all glossed over and have something go wrong about which you were not informed. There is every reason to expect a great outcome, but the doctor is just being honest with you. He will do his best, and it is good to trust him. Our coiling surgeon told us all the risks, and then he added that the worst had never happened to his patients! We kind of had to smile about that, but he was very deliberate, and the outcome was wonderful. We'd trust him with most anything.
