Do you have allergies that require antihistamines? Allegra D gives me heart palpitations, and Claritin does not work. I got a prescription for Levocetirizine (Xyzal), but I'm hesitant to take it due to the common side effects of fatigue.
If you take antihistamines and you struggle with fatigue, which one works best for you?
My allergist recommended Loratidine, but Sarge, I think that’s Claritin. Depending on the season, I will switch to Cetrizine. I was on Zyrtec for years and either of the others are available cheaply at SAMs. my PCP told me she tells people to take their allergy meds at night. I think all of them have fatigue has a side effect.
Moltroub I agree, I take Loratadine which is generic Claritin for seasonal allergies, I have Zyrtec on hand too since ENT Dr. recommended alternating them whichever one is working as seasons change.
I use to take over-counter pseudoephedrine, but have been advised nottake it after PED Flex surgery as can cause dizziness and have had plenty of that with vision issues.
Sarge, My Allergist also advised taking at night and to use Nasal Saltine Spray am & pm, in shower the best and I also use Dymista spray when nose is really dry. Now if I would find something to stop the "rhythmic whooshing sound in left ear only", having it checked now. Star
Finally checked out those Whooshing ear sounds and after many calls & faxes of info later between NH & MA Hospitals for MRI settings(do yourself a favor and get YOUR PED CARD ASAP to stop problems).
MRI showed "deep ear infection" Mastoiditis and I was given Antibiotic's(ugh tummy) & sound is decreasing. Good news films showed no recurrent aneurysm and other 2 are stable. Yippy That was nice info at 4 month out from PED placement. Life is Good again.

Good to know starbirder! I’ll keep an eye out on that whooshing in my right ear. How long did you let it go before you went to someone?
Oh and thanks starbirder! Forgot I also use a saline nasal wash with a neti pot on advice of my allergist. She also said if I couldn’t find one just to use a turkey baster. I’m really careful on keeping the dang thing clean, don’t want to get an infection
Thank you for all of the helpful tips! I went ahead and took the Levocetirizine (Xyzal), since things like Claritin, Zyrtec and Allegra didn't touch my symptoms, and it's working well. I feel very groggy in the morning (more than usual), but my heart is not racing like it did on Allegra D, and my sore throat is manageable.
Starbirder glad to hear your scans came back clear...but I know ear infections aren't any fun! Hope the antibiotics clear it quickly.
Hi Sarge- I take nasal sprays Astelin (which works well). I used to take Osmaris ( which worked better, but my insurance company wouldn't pay for). There is also Allegra. I have palpatations with sudafed. My allergist told me to stay away from the Ds (decongestants) and take the regular ones. I also use the neti pot which helps alot and keeps the use of systemic medications down. Hope this helps.
Also my daughter (24) has to take generic prilosec when she takes antibiotics to prevent stomach issues. Singulair is used for asthma (including asthma caused by allergies) and is a daily perscription medicine.
