Aneurysm clipping

hi glenn again here just wondering if any others can talk to me about my clipping which is going to take place on the 16th august dr nazih na assaad is my nerosergeon at royal north shore .

Hi Glenn ...People here will respond to your post and/or you can chat in the chatroom...Colleen

Hi Glenn, What would you like to know about clipping? Many of us have been through the procedure and there are a variety of experiences. My surgery was May 16, 2012. I was very nervous about my clipping surgery, only to find it wasn’t as bad as my fears. Even though there were complications due to a preexisting blood clot, I am still glad that my neurosurgeon performed my clipping. Suggest you bring some comfortable bedroom shoes and a shower cap (for when they let you shower, since you cannot get your head wet until the stitches are out). I also bought some soft night caps to cover my had after surgery. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please ask. Take Care, Mary

well did your dr share anything with you ? what do you wanna know ?

hi thanks for sharing your experience and things to take .with me. everything that i hear does help with dealing with it .i just want it to be all over ,like everyone else thanks

hi my doctor did tell me lots but the more i hear from others who have been there and had it done helps me to relax abit anyway .i do stress a lot when i think of what the docs say can happen ex death clots etc but i suppose they tell us that for even small operations .how was your experience and how are u going now

Hi glenn

I had my clipping on may 12th of this yr. yes my surgeon told my family of the pros and cons of this surgery as i was too out of it to take notice of what he was saying as my aneurysm had ruptured but they have to do that. well my surgery was a great success. thank god. u will be very tired after it but just take things really slowly and sleep when ever u can, remember the brain heals while we are sleeping. it is a slow healing process so do take good care of urself. good luck with ur clipping and no doubt u will be back on here shortly afterwards telling us all how well u are doing :-)

Take care

sandra

thanks for ur reply laurie hope all goes well

Hi Glenn. I had my clipping nearly 2 years ago. I was rather lucky in that there was very little time between diagnosis and clipping, for me to freak out!!! Quite honestly, I reckon the "idea" of the surgery was actually a lot worse than the reality! Don't get me wrong - it is a type of surgery with risks (like any), and a fairly long recovery, until you are back to your normal self, but it wasn't ANYWHERE near as bad as I thought it was going to be. What everyone else has said about tiredness and resting/sleeping when you need to is so true - even now I still have an afternoon nap when I feel the need. Also, it may help to have something to look forward to, that is not too taxing - I went to a Blondie/Pretenders concert with friends less than a month after my surgery (tickets were purchased before diagnosis), and it was great to have that to look forward to. Anyway, best of luck for the 16th - look forward to hearing on here how you went :-)

Yes you will need a shower cap :). Something that I found out the hard way and I don’t know if anyone else experienced this or not because we all have different bodies and drs and nurses but while in the hospital once I was out of icu and into a normal room. That night when I was ready to go to bed I layer back my bed almost flat kinda like normal to go to bed. Well…I believe…this caused a lot of swelling and pain. So much pain that once I got home I slept in my recliner for a week because I was afraid to lay down. Once I finally got the courage to get into my bed I propped up with pillows. I finally got over it and laid down without incident. But if I could give one piece of advice that may or may not effect you it would be to keep your bed reclined at night.

Hi again Glenn - something else I forgot to mention... when I came home from hospital, they had given me anti-inflammatories to take (Ibuprofen). Thinking I was feeling much better a couple of days later (typical me!), I stopped taking them. As my brain was still swollen, this led to some rather frightening aural hallucinations, which stopped when I called the hospital and they said to continue taking the Ibuprofen until they were finished. So, I recommend that you keep taking any meds they prescribe you, even when you get home!!! Perhaps make sure a friend/family member keeps an eye on you to make sure you take meds, as you can be a little confused at first!

thanks very much for your encouragement and help.

thanks very much for your help

Hi Glenn! I had a rupture on the 31st of April (coiled) and on July 17th I had two aneurysms clipped. I was terrified of surgery for the clipping, like I'm sure you are, but please know your doctors are going to take very good care of you. I went into surgery in the morning and was home in three days. It wasn't because I did so well, it was rather because you have a bigger chance of infection in the hospital than you do going home and starting to resume life. The biggest thing I experienced that no one told me about was that after surgery the fluid from my brain drained down my spine and pooled in my tail bone making it extremely painful to walk for five days. I sat on a heating pad which helped and continued to take my pain meds. You will be ok. There will be headaches but nothing you cannot handle. All the best for you and you're in my prayers.

Thank you Janna for for help and prays

Hi Glenn, I also see dr Assaad, he is so good, very informative and tells it as is. I had a 2 stents placed in my carotid artery in may at RNS you will be in great hands there.
I wish you all the best, for a fast recovery.
Lynn

Thanks Lynn not long now been thinking of coils but at least if I have it clipped I shouldn’t have to worry ever again
