9 Years Post STA-MCA bypass and doing well!

Hi guys,

Haven’t been here in a few years and thought I’d do an update.

I had a brain bypass for an unruptured aneurysm 9 years ago. Dr. Lawton of Barrow brain and spine in Phoenix, AZ performed the surgery.

It was a tough recovery, I had some issues post-surgery including a possible leak which resulted in some hard side effects, but over time those went away (always slower than what the doc says).

I began working out hard a few months later and back to all normal activities. I’ve been living normal life for several years.

The only issue that I’ve had lasting is I think some transient facial nerve pains. They are pretty rare (try-geminal nerve). My regular doctor theorized that the area was traumatized during surgery and perhaps some inflammation can cause it to act up. It’s just a quick face pain and then it’s gone.

The nerves on the top of my head never fully recovered. If I touch there it is still slightly numb, but at least I can scratch. The plates do bother my skin a little and I wish we could remove them. Nothing big I can’t live with.

Thanks to everyone for all the support over the years.
