7 September 2025 Brain Aneurysm Awareness month and new members!

Morning World! Did you know September is Aneurysm Awareness Month? It sure is here in NC https://governor.nc.gov/documents/files/gov-cooper-declares-september-2017-brain-aneurysm-awareness-month/open#:~:text=WHEREAS%2C%20the%20State%20of%20North,two%20hundred%20and%20forty-first. Interestingly, Governor Pat McCrory did the same in 2013, credit goes to Tammie Parris Brain Aneurysm victim shares story of survival, warns of silent killer The BAF has been pushing for years now with the Federal Govt so both Houses can pass Ellie’s Law which does provide some funding for research. It’s really but a drop in the bucket. I think comparably for us, it’s like getting a hamburger at McDonalds. I’ve not done the math but it sounds about right. So, if you’re in the USA, please email those folks. It will never pass until we get heard and it takes many, many constituents to make it heard to those who vote on our behalf. Let’s make the wheel squeak loudly so it gets oiled! Our Initiatives - Brain Aneurysm Foundation. This doesn’t cost us a cent, just a few minutes of your time.

If you’re living in another country, please do the same not only for the declaration but for funding research. We cannot get in front of this without the research and that takes money. On to our welcomes and yes we have new members! Hoorah!!!

Starting off this week is @Martinet down in NSW Australia. Martine has an unruptured aneurysm in the left middle cerebral artery (LMCA). The aneurysm was found at low risk but over time scans revealed changes to high risk and Martine had a successful craniotomy 13 weeks ago. Good for you and good for the doctor that kept monitoring it. Would love to read more of your story, please do start a new topic under the General tab!

@MariDot is here in NC with me, Hey Mari! Mari is in her late 30’s and had no idea young people could have a brain aneurysm. She learned after having a really bad headache that wouldn’t stop with Tylenol so off to Urgent Care she went. They sent her to the ER. She waited 3 hours to be triaged and another 2 hours to be seen. I understand why but I personally thinks it’s ridiculous our wait times when we go in the front door of the ER. Mari was given a CT scan which revealed a mass so they did another with dye and a 1.7cm BA was found that was leaking. The next morning, July 2025, she had her angiogram and 40 cm of coils placed. Her procedure sacrifices a parent vessel and she had a stroke in her temporal lobe that caused part of the brain to die. She shares she is still healing and we are very familiar with that Mari! We don’t usually speak in terms of days, weeks or months even. She also shares she likes science (biology the most) and has enjoyed learning so much of the amazing stuff that has happened in the medical field. Her bucket list is visiting all the National Parks before she dies. What a great goal from Alaska to the U.S. Virgin Islands! Don’t go to California until the fires are out…

We have another new member that was just approved a little bit ago, so we need to wait until she clicks on the email. If Dee looks today, I will come back and introduce her.

Be safe this week, lots of stuff happening in the world. Don’t forget to take a few moments of your time and write to your politicians in what ever country you reside. See you on the topics!
