Good morning y’all! I’ve been sitting here on our back porch (it might really be a patio) watching Nina go crazy over a squirrel running across the top of the roof to the shop. A place that needs to get squared away so we can do our hobbies. It will happen one day, not today.
Mr. Curley has been having a rough go of it lately and he’s made some mistakes in the dog bathroom. I love Mr. Curley, he is usually a very kind and patient man. He has had so many stressors lately it’s a wonder he can even keep going. But the stressors are showing up in his memory and work.
I was in a quandary because he sent me to get paint he had ordered, I did and it’s the wrong color. Had my name on it and Mr. Curley’s. It’s a gallon of paint. Had to call him yesterday when I finally got to painting the patches. He called the hardware store and fortunately I was able to get a refund. Not sure why he cut the holes in the wall, the shut offs were exposed already by the guy who hung the drywall. I think he’s looking for another shut off cock. He’s put the baseboard up too high and has told me that’s what I said to do. I clearly remember saying low. There’s been some other minor errors, some I could fix. But I really get hung up when someone says I said something and I remember the conversation. It’s really hard for me when I’m told I’m not remembering correctly, really hard. To say I take it personally would be an understatement.
I’ve been stressing out with how to tell Mr. Curley the baseboards are wrong. I don’t want to add to his stress. His daughter had to have surgery on her esophagus, it had closed to 5mm. The surgeon was able to open it to 11mm. Apparently the other doctor and the radiologist both missed it and they were having a difficult time diagnosing that she couldn’t swallow solid food. His wife had to have eye surgery and it upsets him when she’s not 100%. He also thought he’d snap back quicker than he has since his lumbar surgery. We noticed his memory going when his back started giving him major problems. Pain does that to a person. It becomes the focus of our brain a lot of times and that makes it hard to concentrate.
I’m worried about him, worrying does us no good. I know that, sometimes we have to accept things in not in our control. But still, the baseboards? Floors are never level and I asked him if he took measurements. Usually I go with the lowest point, he went with the highest. I asked him to cope the corners which is a little more work but its the best way to deal with imperfect walls and does away with the need for caulk. He used caulk.
I’ve been reminded by BH to give him some grace, also a pen pal has extolled the virtue of giving grace. I’m getting the message and BH has given me a plan on how to address it by accepting responsibility. I just need to ask him why I said to put it that high. Another no big deal, right? Again it is to me. I’ve decided it’s because being the youngest of four, I was blamed for a lot of things I didn’t do. Dad was on to my 2 oldest siblings that did it all the time, Mom not even a clue. Dad was really into us accepting responsibility and giving credit where credit was due. It’s ingrained in me I do believe. But now I just need to focus on “grace”.
We often say here on many different topics to give ourselves or others some grace. What is grace exactly? Depends on one’s perspective. Some members who are Christian may refer to the Bible and others may just say it’s many things…Empathy, kindness, patience, support, and understanding people are human, they make mistakes are but a few that come to mind. The word “grace” encompasses all of this, another word just doesn’t come to my brain.
I can do this with others most of the time. I have trouble with myself most of the time. I expect too much. I’m human, not perfect. I need to practice it more since the universe is telling me to. How do you practice grace? Is it different for others than for yourself? When you’ve just had a procedure on your brain can you support yourself, be kind to yourself etc.? When your brain has changed because of a rupture, procedure, stress or just age can you give yourself and those around you some grace? Let’s all make it a goal this week, shall we?
Now to what we’ve all been waiting for! Our newest members!
@Onlyangie2001 is down in Texas. Angie has had 4 procedures, coils clips and flow diverting pipeline. Back in October 2020 she was driving to work and developed the worst headache imaginable and vision became blurry. She made it back home when the symptoms started. Her husband drove her to the ER. Fortunately she got a scan immediately and she was sent off to another hospital for her surgery. Angie shares she doesn’t remember much of anything for a couple of months. Since then, she’s had 3 more aneurysms found and those were either coiled or clipped. August of this year the coils in the aneurysm that ruptured have compacted and developed a pouch so she had another surgery to clip it. Dang girl! I’m glad you able to still work! That’s amazing!
@Scranwich is up in Massachusetts. Scram shares that after 3 plus years of migraines, the chiropractor gave diagnosis of an aneurysm. Scram shares they went “immediately into surgery with a neurosurgeon-not my chiropractor” ROFLOL. Scram also shares they’re too young to retire and thinks too young to have this thing. We get it, come talk to us!
Moving back South, @Lorwilli is down in Louisiana Geaux Tigers! Loretta has the SealIt Device after experiencing a basilary tip aneurysm rupture. She was in ICU for 21 days and shares that she’s humbled to walk away unscathed. Good for you!
Across the pond is @Marieb27 in Newcastle. She had a brain aneurysm in 2015 that was coiled but is still experiencing dizziness and headaches daily. Marie shares that she enjoys reading, true crime and puzzles. Curious to know if your aneurysm ruptured, Marie…
We end this week with @Kierra38then40now back over here in the USA up in Washington. Kierra shares she’s had 2 brain procedures and on BP meds with yearly CT scans with and without contrast. On Halloween, 2023, Kierra was found wearing only a coat and crying for help. She was taken by ambulance to Kennewick and then life flight to Harbor View Hospital. Kierra shares she had a craniotomy where the surgeon removed a large portion of her skull and clamped the aneurysm. She was placed in a coma and woke up 2 weeks later, still missing half her skull. She had to wear a helmet to protect her brain. She was released in December with the helmet. A couple of months later she had the missing pieces put back on and has done all 3 therapies. Kierra shares she is now living in a wonderful home with some amazing women and has a job she loves! I think that’s amazing and hope you get time for your cross stitching!
