Watch and wait- how long?

I had one brain aneurysm with was coiled and two strokes a couple of years ago. My First year follow up was good. I haven't been able to do the 2nd year checkup due to not having health insurance. I had to give up my job after the aneurysm. I have been left with blurred vision and short term memory lost, sometimes weirdness in my head and very bad headaches. There is a weight limit set by my doctor and I try not to overexert myself. Otherwise, I am just happy to be alive.

Hi, I did quite alot of watching and waiting.

A four year wait till they found my 7mm annie - symptoms like Jacqueline's migraines, memory problems and left sided numbness. It was inoperable as it was pressing into the optic chiasm where the optic nerves join right in the middle of the brain. Doc said too much sqishy stuff to get through to clip and the neck was 4mm so no coil. But, yey! 2012 they approved the pipeline in australia so operated then a year and a half to resolve. Over those years my eyesight deteriorated. Never completely recovered but so much better. Last couple of weeks some visual symptoms returning (docs say I am stressed).

Just so very grateful I waited for the right technology to come along. Can live with wierd colours and shapes and even the headaches as long as my head is safe I guess.

Oh, I was never told not to do anything by the doc's but if I have more than one glass of wine for a celebration (I am not a drinker) my visual world turns into colours and trailing lines.

Hi, Donkeymom, I am waiting for appointment with Dr. Sinclair at the Civic for other opinion because I've gotten 3 different neurosurgeon's take on my 4 brain aneurysms each with a different solution. Aargh! I'm in Cornwall so can't be far from you.....how did you like Doc?

I had a TIA in 2011 Thought I was fully recovered, but still have horrible headaches, have had double vision for 3 years and off and on blurry vision. My angio in 2012 was clear, but hear I am in 2014 with an aneurysm of the Iliac artery.

I don't know what to think anymore. And I am really getting tired of falling. I do not recommend the falls, as after a 100 they do a number on the spine.

So now I am wondering if something was missed on the angio or if I need to find a different doctor and have another?

I had issues with BM's too Kristin but I solved that problem myself without any medicine. I take three BP meds as it is, one being a diuretic that depletes my system of so much water that it causes the constipation. Before I go to bed, I drink a half cup (4 oz) of prune juice. Problem solved! I now go like clockwork every morning and all is well....try it. :o) Muriel

thank you. I will email you for the info. eileen

I live in Northern Ireland but can travel in Europe (UK pref) if needed? I thought 2 years for an 8mm one was concerning

Thanks, the thing is I don't know where to turn. I'll almost def have to go to the UK but don't know where to look.

my daughter gets an MRA every year

As I read all of these comments it truly amazes me that doctors give out so many different restrictions and opinions. I know that each situation is different but it is mind baffling that all these doctors are not on the same page. I guess that is why I pray and put my trust in God. None of these doctors really know only God knows what I future holds for us.

I really think that me getting vertigo came on because of my Annie being worked on. I never had it before my operation. I have had about 2 bouts in the last 2 years. I also had visual migraines with squiggly lines and shapes....but no headache right after my coiling. The first time I experienced these migraines with my sight narrowing and ziggey shapes was really scary. I thought I was going blind. So far so good for the past year. No weird visual effects. I had a 2 mm annie that they found when coiling my 11 mm one. My doc said it was too small and we were just going to "watch it"....But....after prayers from so many and myself included, and a belief that my good Lord and Savoir would heal me...low and behold my 3rd Angio couldn't find that bugger! My doc couldn't believe it either....especially after we have been watching it for the past 1 1/2 years with a few angiograms. A Miracle. God is Good!

I love the idea of a list. I’m starting mine today!

Exactly how I’m feeling at the moment. The waiting almost feels worse than knowing I have an aneurysm! And every headache rises panic in me, every dizzy spell makes me think will I pass out and hit my head?
And yes I totally relate to this is urgent for me! At least give me a date so I can talk to someone/get test results.
Maybe there comes a day when you just learn to live with waiting?

Wow just wanted to say thanks for sharing! You survived  although it sounds like healing will take time. Wishing you well

Hi Bloomsie, you may want to ask your GP if you can be referred to another hospital for a second opinion or if that fails there is always the possibility of getting a second opinion from a private neurosurgeon. It does mean paying a fee but I have been able to find one at the London Hospital on Harley Street for less than I expected! And you get an appointment far quicker than on the NHS! All the best

Has anyone had an aneurysm on their supraclinoid carotid artery taken care of? That is where my second one is. I haven't seen my surgeon yet to discuss this one, but I'm afraid that they can't fix it because it's on my carotid.

This is the best message I've read! I hoping mine can go unruptured for 45 years!!! Thank you for sharing!

Yes you can share and vent on this page! Praying for you and your recovery.

Get another opinion. Maybe they can wrap it to reinforce the artery. Good luck!

I went in to have mine clipped but they had to wrap it. Clipping would have stopped the blood flow to my eye and I would have been blind in my left eye. I went the clipping route because it would be GONE. So I was a little bummed (49 years old when diognosed, 50 at surgery) I just had my one year check up. He said everything looked exactly like he thought it would. it had shrunk some, and there was scar tissue around it which reinforces it as well. He said I don't have to go back for regular check ups. But I will request an MRI in a few years..
