Vertigo

Hello I was trying to find out how many people have Vertigo with an aneurysm?? and can anyone tell me if they got better?

Hi there,

I had vertigo in March which led the dr’s to send me for an MRI/MRA where they found my aneurysm. The dr. said that my vertigo was not caused by my aneurysm, it was a seperate issue. My vertigo is alot better now and very rarely do I have any symptoms. I had an angiogram a few weeks ago and my anuerysm is going to be clipped on June 8th. I was not a candidate for coiling due to the wide neck and shape of my anuerysm.

Sorry I don’t suffer from that. Good luck with it !

Hi Lynne,
My aneurysm was found due to my vertigo also…Dr’s say it’s not related but I keep seeing a lot of people with Vertigo and annies?? I also was told that one of my annies needed to be treated via clipping and one coiled…were do u live? I’m in NY and saw two dr’s one just did MRI & mra but new Dr. wants to do cat scan before going further… do u have any other symptoms??
Roseanne

I live in Baltimore MD so I’m having surgery at Johns Hopkins. I actually have no symptoms at all which makes this especially hard to undersand. I actually had an MRI/MRA and a CTA (cat scan with contrast) prior to my angiogram. I just got lucky that they found it before it ruptured. The hardest part is the waiting for surgery to take place. I am very happy with the dr. and hospital, just want to get it over with.

I too had a mild case of vertigo in March which has since gone a way. My doctor recommended a MRI and they found my aneurysm. I have been told by 4 doctors that there is no connection between my vertigo and my aneurysm. According to what I have read 5 percent of the population have aneurysms. So when they do an MRI because of vertigo they find people with aneurysms. I’m scheduled to have mine coiled in the beginning of July. Good luck to you Lynn.

Joanne

I live in NY too. Who are your doctors and where you happy with them?

Hello Joanne,
I’m on long island i first went to Dr. Woo @ Stony Brook univ. Then I went to North Shore UNIV to the ANEURYSM CENTER… I’m having my cat scan there this thur…I likes Dr Woo but not crazy for Stony Brook…so I think i’m going with North Shore. How about you??

Hi Roseanne

I live in Queens. I saw Dr. Avi Setton at North Shore. I liked him and would feel confident with him and my neurologist raved about him. I’m having it done by Dr. Rina at Columbia Weil Cornell however. I like that hospital better. Dr. Riina told me he would recommend only two people to do my coiling. Himself (of course) or Dr. Setton. I had my CAT scan done before I saw any of the interventional radiologists. Good luck to you! Let me know how things go.

Hi Joanne,

Wow your close to me…were in Queen’s…My ex husband grew up in woodside and moved to middle village as a teen and i spent lot’s of time there I was born in flushing…
Ok…I just went for my cta scan yesterday and back on Mon to north shore I seen Dr. Setton’s partner he said that he dose the open surgery and Dr Setton dose the coiling…I agree with u about Columbia is better but in my case right now North Shore is ok for my I had 2 of my kids there and have been in and out of there for years so it’s fine… How are you feeling? are u freaking out? I’m just not sure what to feel…I still have the vertigo bad and been getting lot’s of headaches but i always get them so i keep waiting for the headache of my life…lol
KEEP ME UP DATED PLEASE…
Roseanne…

Yes I am freaking out. Some days are better than others. Today I don’t know why, is a good day. I just try focusing on the positive. It gets a bit better when you make a decision about what you are going to do but I still feel very frightened and vulnerable and wish the coiling was over. My procedure isn’t scheduled until July 6. I just try to focus on the positive and that maybe this was a blessing in disguise. I had very few symptoms. I’m 50. I felt great. I was running 10 miles a week. (Dr. Chalif told me to stop which I did) I have a strong family history for high blood pressure and I was seeing my doctor every couple of months to monitor my pressure to see if I needed to go on medication (which I did). During that time I had two very mild bouts of vertigo that lasted a few seconds. I I was suprised when my doctor recommended an MRI to rule out a tumor. Needless to say the rest is history. My aneurysm needs to be coiled. I’ve had no more vertigo. I hope you are feeling better. Keep in touch we can give each other moral support

Joanne

By the way, I grew up in Flushing.

Joanne,

It sounds just like me Your right If we didn’t have something else going on we would have not made the diagnoses until it is too late…or we just have it going on in our brain…I’m 43 and have 3 girls one who has Angelman Syndrome she has many disability no walking or talking g tube it’s hard… but I’ll make it work what ever happens…I’m hoping for just the coiling but One Dr has said I have 2 one needs surgery…i hate that idea really but what can u do…
i wish u all the best…

You have so much on your plate to deal with. Just make sure you get a second opinion. How large are your aneurysms? I have 2 children 14 year old daughter and an 18 year old son. My son has learning disabilities but nothing like your daugther’s. Your girls really need you, maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Sending good thoughts your way.

That is how they found my annie. Horrible vertigo to the point of vomiting. My ear, nose and throat specialist said I had mennieres (sp.?). As a last resort, he sent me for an MRI. Since having my clipping done, not one episode of vertigo. He told me it wasn’t related, but I find it hard to believe it has disappeared since my surgery 4 months ago. Good luck!!! I’m back to my old self now.

Hello Donna,

Yea sounds like my case…I have had Vertigo since April …I was sent for MRI,MRA and balance tests { that said I have crystals in my right ear that is causing my vertigo that about few days later they called about 2 annies one behind my right eye…and one in my back of my head one Dr said that i can do clipping for one and coiling for the other but i went to a dr at the Annie Center in NY he said that my film were bad and he thinks I should have a cat scan so I had that done last week and go for results this Thur…but your so right Vertigo has to be part of it…mine is really bad also…it has gotten a little better but I still get really bad spinning…were do u live ? can you describe your surgery??

I live in Indianapolis and had a wonderful Dr. who was featured on CNN. I too was sent for balance tests and told I had crystals in my ears. They had me lay on my bed and hang my head upside down to try and help it. Was put on water pills and had to restrict my sodium intake. After I had the MRI, I was told I had a 7 mm. that they clipped, I was in the hospital for 5 days and my recovery was wonderful. Really no pain after the first 2 weeks and now back to work full time and feeling good. I still have some weird feelings in my head, but they said that was the healing process. I think everyone has different symptoms, as I never had the bad headaches. I was scared to have the surgery, but came out just fine.

Donna

lol I did the thing with hang my head off the table… no help with that yet they said they can do it again but that was before they found the annie im going to ask the dr if i can do it again… that test bad I so bad did they put water in your ears?? omg i was vomiting so bad at that point i really was scared…Anyways I hope if I have surgery its like yours how long did you wait before you did the surgery? Why clipping?

Yes, I had the water shot in my ears too. Didn’t bother me though. They found it the second week of January and my surgery was January 28th, so only about 2 weeks. He said my health and age were good for clipping. Apparently, it’s more successful than coiling. In this day and age, they have the ability to do so much. You will be fine, just think positive.

I just got back from my 2nd opinion for my 2 annies…he had me go for a cat scan last week I walk in today and he says I have NO Aneurysms I almost fell of the chair how could this be…he said the cat scan is much better and what they seen on the mra mri is just my blood vesicles?? Anyway he is sending me to his partner to have a look with my old films and the new cat scan to see if anything is there…3rd Dr…I’m shocked…Has anyone told they have one or two and not be there??? I truly hope for this to be true…

That’s great news!

I had something similar but it didn’t turn out so well. After I had my MRI/MRA. My neurologist said that mine was either a loop in the artery or an aneurysm. He recommended the CAT scan because it gives a better picture (according to Dr. Setton he said it’s 90 % accurate.) After they did the CAT scan, all the doctors I saw said it was an aneurysm. You must be so relieved.
