@Karla
Wonderful news! Congratulations! Take the time you need to rest and recover.
That’s wonderful! I’d need lots of long naps after a weekend like yours😂
Yeah, I needed long naps after a weekend like mine too!
I keep thinking that I am “more” recovered than I am and “surprised” when I am exhausted from doing light chores around the house.
So my MIL came in from abroad for the week and offered to take the family out for dinner — it didn’t occur to me that I hadn’t been to a sit-down restaurant since this all happened… They sat us near the bar and glass storefront, brick wall — terrible acoustics. I got close to tears, but kind of sucked it up — it was so loud — people laugh so loudly
and it hurt my head. I started discreetly pressing on my ears to muffle sounds. I was regretting not taking my earplugs… I managed through, but by the time we got home, I had to sit in the dark with my 4-legged buddy for comfort.
I guess my takeaway today is that I’ll be re-evaluating when and where I go to restaurants and whether they have good acoustics or not. Incidentally, I design restaurants when I am actually working, and sadly, it’s the first thing they cut when the budget is tight/over.
Oh my gosh and with all that sound everyone has to speak loudly as well. The first time I went out after I ruptured, we joined some friends for breakfast, it wasn’t a good experience and there wasn’t any music. We learned that we needed to go before the crowd came in and leave when the restaurant started getting busy. We still do that or I can have some cognitive issues. As the years progressed, I am able to go to a winery with friends when there’s a good band. It’s outside and we just sit as far as possible. A couple of times there’s been issues with the speakers (they make that high pitched noise because they’re too close and facing incorrectly) I actually have gone up at their break and suggested they relocate them. One guy was a bit peeved so I suggested he come stand by our table. I think he stood there for about 30 seconds and their orientation was changed. ![]()
You might want to get an extra set of plugs and keep them in your purse. I used to keep an extra set in the glove compartment just for when I forgot. It’s nice of your MIL to come for a visit, you get to practice your French!
