Fred...Steroids are a wonder drug with so many things, but the side~effects are awful...I feel for you...Are they making you edgy? Hungry?, etc., well...I hate that it will take 2 weeks, but I am sure they are helping...
Everyone is different, but the Neurosurgeons order Ferocet for the Headaches...they really helped me so much after surgery...just thought I would share with you...and you can mention to your Doctors...they are so ~ called Neuro safe...
I am well today...but I must tell you ... I had bad headaches for a couple of months after coiling...and then I did really good...but I woke with a bad one Sunday that lasted 2 days...and at first I was scared...even thought my Doc's told me these headaches can take 6 months ... anyways... I was a bit scared ... and then I realized...it was my body telling me I have been overdoing...and needed to back down the activity...sure enough this has helped...
My advice to you...imperative...to rest and rest and rest...and walk (move the bones)...does that make sense? One hand your body needs to get stronger and then the mind has to rest...
Now keep Healing ... and your explanation of the site and posts...well I am here to tell you...you sound good...Cyber prayers your way...Colleen
I am doing much better today, the slight increase in the steroid has totally releived the headaches today. I don't have a perscription for Ferocet but do have one for Ultram or Tramadol, and if taken on the very onset they head it off 90% of the time for me.
Yesterday they just didn't do it for me at all and when I called the Doctor, his only question had the headache come on gradually or like the "Thunderclap" referred to here in the other forums. Yesterday was just a mild build up so the adjustment to the steriod seemed to be all that was needed.
The steriods are certainly a miracle drug but they too have very serious side effects. I will be happy to be free of them soon.
the only med that worked for my headaches was hydrocodone. i had to fight like hell for a prescription for it though as everyone is cracking down on narcotics. my bff, a nurse, was pissed i had to fight for a prescription for one of the mildest narcotics on the market after having brain surgery. the firocet made me vomit and the ibuprofen tore my stomach up.
zofran (?) was the only thing that worked for the nausea even though my sucktastic insurance doesn't cover it.
i'm so glad nothing happened while you were forced to wait. may all go well for you from now on!!
I had my large fusiform annie fixed with pipeline and coiled on Dec 29, 2011. I have had mild headaches but other than great!!! I cant tell yo0u how great my Doctor was. He is a pioneer of the pipeline in the basilar and to my knowledge no one has done more than him he is constantly proctoring other doctors all over the country. If you want another opinion his name is Dr Kim Nelson he is at NYU Langone message me and I will give you his number. Again he is amazing!!
My surgery Dr Kim Nelson got approved in 3 days, call him and talk to him at least for another opinion it cant hurt
To answer your question in hospital 3 days, 2 weeks and 2 days out of surgery and feel great other thsan mild headaches and resting a lot. Taking Ultram for headaches and it works if I take it almost every 4 hours. No other disabilities to note. I take plavix and aspirin every day of course, was taking lipitor just to prevent any plaque even though my cholesteral is good, but had a reaction in my upper legs very painful so they took me off that, I also take
ambian to sleep at night and prevacid to coat my stomach from meds. That is it. Wish you Luck and call Dr Nelson!!!
Join the new group on this site called Dr Kim Nelson survivors. I just started the group and I am trying to find people like us who have great stories after being treated by him and his team.
FYI Mike, Fred passed away a few weeks after his surgery, great guy and we corresponded until his passing. Major issues not related to pipeline caused his death, so no worries.
