I’m starting a new topic because my aneurysm coincided with another issue which I’m just coming to understand: I have come to understand this summer that I have had 4-year long, very bad sinus infection and I did not know it.
In fact, that is how my aneurysm was first diagnosed: my left ear felt clogged and an ENT did an MRI. The MRI revealed the aneurysm (see: 17 mm Aneurysm in Anterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery (AICA) Treated Endovascularly by Flow Diverter 10/13/22 - General / personal-stories - Brain Aneurysm Support Community).
I have come to realize that it is likely that large parts of my light sensitivity (Post Surgical Headaches - Suggestions for Deal - General - Brain Aneurysm Support Community) have been due to my sinuses being very clogged.
I wanted to start this topic because I have been wondering about the connection between the sinus problem and the aneurysm. I.e., there are some papers which suggest that sinus infections which spread to the brain can cause aneurysms. See for instance the following:

I’m not necessarily implying that there was a direct connection between my 17 mm aneurysm and the sinus infection, such as fungus invaded my artery and caused it to burst. But perhaps 2 or 3 conditions mutually affected each other : my aneurysm was near my trigeminal nerve and even the first radiologist thought damage to that nerve was the cause of my ear clogging and tinnitus. So there are 3 things in play here:
- A artery weakened by past trauma
- Trigeminal and other nerves not doing their job fully (perhaps affected by fungus or other infection)
- The sinus infection itself, swelling things up, perhaps leading to some weird pressure?
I just wanted to start this topic to gather other user stories – to see if anyone else’s aneurysms were preceded or accompanied by a sinus infection.
After going to 7 ENT’s (over 4 years) for the clogged ear problem, I am finally being treated by a naturopathic doctor with Ozone gas (up the nose and in the ears) and I am seeing significant improvement in the clogged feeling in my ear and lessening of the watery sounds.
I am just wondering if other people have any experience with this.
Please share your stories.
Thanks.
