Well I had the plates & screws removed on Wednesday and I obviously feel crappy right now & need to recover but it’s already better than the headaches I had prior to the removal!
Thanks, but dont have to post it. I am almost 70 and just will leave well enough alone because my meningioma they found 2 years ago is right next to the clipped aneurysm. I just don’t want to be opened up anymore for fear of creating new problems. My post really was to help those with the migraine med I take and also to point out that I was told its a cosmetic procedure to remove them & I would have to pay. Maybe had I not developed so many post-op conditions I may have considered it, but not anymore.
I wasn’t suggesting that you go through the surgery. I was just sharing my experience as this thread originally was me asking opinions of others in a similar situation.
Can you explain what they did? I would also like to consider getting my screws removed by I don’t think my doctors would do that. I don’t think there are any problems with my skull, just that the screws/plates stick out a little and cause issues with my skin.
Sorry Jeanne, my post was replying to the original commentator. For example, look at your post, and it shows an arrow that you are replying to me. If you don’t see that, the post is replying to the original comment. I know it’s hard to tell in these forums who is talking to who; that is something that needs improving.
They did my surgery after years of trying different medications and several rounds of nerve blocks with no improvement. My headaches were getting worse and this was my last option. I was in the hospital for 3 days prior to the surgery with a headache that couldn’t be controlled.
They went in through the original incision from ear to ear. They took out all the screws & the 4 plates. They didn’t need any bone cement as they said the bones healed well and there wasn’t any need for it. They surgery itself took only an hour as opposed to the 7 hours with the original surgery.
They did not need to open up the skull or anything.
It’s been 10 days ago & I’m not experiencing those types of headaches. Just recovering from the surgery. I think it was a success!
Great news!!
For me the screws were causing damage to the nerves. He was great
about it.
Mine was 3 weeks so it is still healing but all the pressure is gone.
The plates are still there they just removed the screws. It was not as simple as he expected but a definite needed surgery. 3 days in the hospital. Still a lot of pain but from the incision which is ear to ear as my craniotomy/clipping.
