Plavix (side effects)

I’m on day 4 of Plavix heading towards an angiogram on Tuesday and embolization on Wednesday next week for an unruptured aneurysm. I know I have a lot to worry about and so far so good with the medication, but my recent (very minor) complaint is that I am breaking out. Anyone have this side effect from Plavix? If so, did it last throughout the course of the medication?

Thanks.

Hi Marcy, I had to take Plavix last week for a 4 day trial to make sure it is working, I didn't have any complications at all with this medication, but did read that the presence of a rash (I am assuming that is what you mean by breaking out) should be taken seriously so maybe you should contact your doctor xx

Sorry. I should have been clearer. It isnt a rash. I have an outbreak of acne.

I agree with Jo...do you mean a "rash"...if so call the Doctor's office immediately, this can be a reaction to the med...

Hang in there...keep us posted...~ cyber~thoughts your way ~ Colleen

oops just saw your reply...I didn't break out in acne...sorry can't be of any help...

Thanks. Jo, outside of a few pimples and being exhausted I can't say that there are any negative effects at this point. I'm on day 5 now...

Jo,

My ophthalmologist referred me to a neuro-ophthalmologist in mid-December because I have pulsatile tinnitus in my right ear. The neuro referred me for an MRI and MRA (with contrast) and they incidentally found the aneurysm in my left internal carotid artery. I saw a bunch of specialists and ended up also doing a CTA. There was some dissent among the physicians that I saw as to whether the aneurysm was in my brain or just outside of it. It was finally determined that it is indeed in my brain and needs to be embolized.

So, I started Plavix and 81mg aspirin on Saturday. So far so good (except for the exhaustion and really, really minor acne). I will report to Jefferson Hospital at 5:30 am on Tuesday. Dr. Robert Rosenwasser will do an angiogram on me to determine the exact location. I am hoping that it will also give us more information about the tinnitus but I have been told that it is not related to the aneurysm and they would have seen some indication of a problem on my brain scans.

He will conference with me on Tuesday afternoon to fill me in on the plan of attack. Wednesday he will do the procedure. I'm supposed to stay in the ICU overnight and go home on Thursday.

I'm spending most of my time worrying about what will be happening with my 3 young sons. My husband will be down in Philly with me throughout the procedure. My Mother will be with my boys and my friends and other family members are going to be pitching in with meals, upcoming holiday stuff, driving my kids to and from activities, etc.

I have come to understand that I will likely sleep for 2 weeks straight during the recovery. I am assuming that I won't be able to do anything. I'm trying to make sure that either my husband is home after school or that friends can come over to feed my kids and help them with homework.

That's where I am at this point. You?

I am on Plavix and asprin also since last Tuesday(started with 800 mg plavix and 600 mg asprin night before surgery) now 1 each every day. Mine was unruptured also and went thru groin to coil this one....had 2 before clipped with a craino. My meds are to be taken for 3 months I have no reaction to plavix but asprin hurts my stomach

All the best to you. I will definitely keep you updated on my progress and hope that you will do the same.

Marcy

Hello Ladies… I was reading your concerns about the plavix… & although I myself am not on plavix, I do have a 3 mm anni- that we have eTched for two years-- and thank goodness hasn’t grown any bigger… This one was found accidently when I did my yearly MRI to check my hemmorrhage site/ screws from a bleed I suffered after delivering my daughter in 2005. My question for you & Jo if she’s reading-- how big are your anni’s now that they are getting fixed? Thxs! Jamie

My aneurysm is 8mm. The only reason why we are embolizing it is that a very small portion is in my brain cavity.

Marcy, please read your labeling that came with your prescription; or look it up on the 'net (so much easier to read than the tiny print pages); because plavix is known to have reactions. I was off it early...

Gill was so blessed to have her experiemental study before going in for treament.

Call your doctor!!!

Prayers for good results,
