Kavli Prize Winners in Neuroscience

The " three neuroscientists whose research overturned decades-old notions about how and whether the brain can change in response to experience have won $1 million Kavli Prize in Neuroscience ...per Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters announced on Thursday " (June 2nd)...

The academy president in Oslo said "Michael Merzenich of UCSF, Carla Scahtz of Stanford U, and Eve Marder of Brandeis U were being honored for discovering "mechanism that allow experience and neural activity to remodel brain function".. ..

"The discoveries have led to the development of cochlear implants for hearing loss and to therapies that exploit the brain's power of "neuroplasticity" to recover from stroke, depression, Tourette syndrome, and other conditions - all without the use of drugs."

Expect this will be of interest to many to know what these specialists have discovered and brought together.

Dr. Merzenich of UCSF is the one who established the "PostScience" ...and, of which I took the Brain Fitness program in 2007. I elected to do it at a local assisted living center to have an instructor available...and not struggle on my reading/comprehension limitations...

This was also the time I was talking to my more senior friends...and, the hub, then @ 102 years...said several times about something I was to 'discover'... I finally asked what I was supposed to 'discover'... and, was told to get the March 2007 Discover magazine as it had an article about Dr. Merzenich...
