I’m begging for HELP

I had a rupture, and it was clipped, this was 9.5 years ago. I personally have not had a CT scan in years, and when I did, it was because I was getting alot of headaches. My suggestion is to ask your doctor, he will know what's right for you! , sounds like you have more than one aneurysm? Good luck, and God bless!

I too have bumps. I am able to be scanned in an MRI machine. No pain. Where do u live. U need a new dr. I live near NYC. So I would travel there when needed. Joseph. Do u will near a big city that I could go to?

A larger hospital that you could go to

After i posted my comment this morning I did think about a medic alert bracelet. But my clips apparently arnt hindered by having a MRI since I have had many MRIs just fine.

It is a puzzling thing though. One tech told me if its too strong a magnetic pull it can pull the clip off, thats why they need to know what kind of clips people have. But from other annie survivors talking here it doesnt sound like we are all told the same things by our medical providers.

As for a med alert bracelet. No. Maybe that will be another discussion another time.

I had 2 clippings done in 2012, last year i had a CT scan with contrast and im meant to be booking in for an Angiogram in the next couple of months for follow up, ive been told ill never have the pleasure of an MRI either lol i also have the lurch bump.

I don’t have clip, but stent and coils. I should go yearly for MRI/MRA…but works out to be every other year… Mine was done in 2005. The one thing that the doctor wants though, is for me to have these MRI’s in the less strong machine…the older variety…because the magnets are less strong…so less likely to disturb the coil placement. This info may not in the least translate to what should be done if you have a clip, however.

Dear Patty:

My aneurysm clipping (2 of them) was June 7, 2006. I had an MRA in 2011, 5 years after the clipping. I have not had any since then; but have had a number of MRI's for other body "ailments." My clips are Aesculap FT728D and FT720T and are considered MRI/MRA/CT compatible. I carry a medical alert card identifying the clips and a letter written by my surgeon stating that they are compatible (in case I cannot tell anyone that they are). I would double check with your neurosurgeon or his/her assistant and find out two things: 1) are your clips compatible with MRI/MRA/CT; and 2) would it be a good idea to have the MRA done to determine that everything is okay. It is pretty standard practice to have the MRI/MRA done at 5 years after surgery and again if warranted by the 5-year MRI.

I agree with Janet - be your own patient advocate and push for answers.

Good Wishes, Paulette Suchy

Hello Patty,

I had a ruptured brain aneurysm clipped in March 2010. Since then, I had a cerebral arteriogram at 6 months and one at 3 years. My neurologist said my next one should be 4-5 years from the last. My anye. was clipped successfully and I have had no signs of any other aneurysms. He said more and more time would be between cerebral arteriogram, as long as everything looked good. Best of luck and God Bless.

Cathy

Hi Patty! I am 5 yrs post sah and get yearly mra with x rays pre and post to check shunt, soon it will change to 3 or 5 yrs not sure , they will send me the results and the next plan

My aneurysm burst on April 13, 1974! I was just 17 years old @ the time. I had temporary paralysis on my right side. Through determination I regained the strength back on my right side. I started working on August 4, 1975 and I married my sweetheart (who witnessed the rupture) on Jan. 24, 1976. It wasn’t until 1986 that we decided to see a neurologist for a long overdue check-up. He performed an EEG (brain wave) nome that revealed spots that could turn into Epilepsy. But, the doctor said that, “we’re not going to worry about that at this time”. On May 10, 1989 while asleep I had a Grand Mal seizure. My wife awoke with me gurgling, and my head was cocked back. Although your aneurysm has not burst, I would STILL see a competent neurologist. “God’s Blessings”. LeRoy

Nancy sorry to hear that you had the infection as well. Mine was diagnosed as MSSA - spent a week in hospital and then 6 weeks on home IV ( thank goodness my husband acted as my nurse!). Was fitted for a helmet but honestly did not always wear it. Had my head totally shaved during the last operation which also included a skin graft from my thigh onto the back of my head... Last September I underwent open heart surgery for an ascending aortic aneurysm.not sure if related to the brain aneurysm but might be my genes. Hope you are doing well now.

Hi…have had stent/coil for an aneurysm and also set off detectors at airports and sometimes at stores. I think it depends on whether I have had radiation from who knows…maybe the microwave? I don’t travel much…so no real problem. I keep meaning to get a note or? from the dr…in case I have trouble with such… I have to have MRI’s in older, less strong machine so things don’t get misplaced.

I had a ruptured aneurysm 2 years ago and the first 6 month I had an angiogram and now every year I have a MRI. I don’t know if I will keep getting MRI every year. I will find out in nov

Hi Patty,

Thank you for asking this question.

I had 3 coils inserted into my aneurysm in 2012. I too am at a loss for an answer.... I went for a one year scan and all I was told was that my arteries have narrowed some more. Should I be concerned?

I find a general lack of interest post-op here and was wondering if this is just a South African thing or if it is the same all over?

Hi, Beryl. I was coiled and stented in 2011 and have been getting yearly MRA's. In fact the neurosurgeon's office called me yesterday to schedule the MRA, then a followup in their office in October. My neurosurgeon told me initially that I would get annual MRA's for several years, then if everything looks good, they would extend the tests and followups out further. Because coils can compact over time, a patient with coils will need to be followed for life (although at what intervals, I don't know yet, at least for me).

I would definitely call your neurosurgeon's office to ask about scheduling an MRA and then an appt. for the results. Hopefully there is just a lack of communication. Good luck, Sherri

I’m 45 and non smoker with normal blood pressure. I had a right non ruptured MCA at bifurcation clipped 6 weeks ago, my check up scan showedoeratin was 100% sucess.

What im surprised about is surgeon said ts unlikely to occur again and that i dont need follow up scans or appointments.

My dad also had aneurism but he had been a smoker for 17 years and had high blood pressure he dies at 50 of SAH.

How many has had 2nd aneurisms after their originals one was clipped. Any one found a second one developed after 45 years of age?

Hi!! im 10 yrs post and get no scans now! coiled sah grade 5, i guess we got to trust in them and God too, tcxoxo

Remember each of us and their doctors are different. I had SAH fisher level 3 and due to my specific aneurysm was coiled two more times. I still get MRAs but it’s because of my aneurysm. No new aneurysms have developed. If your doctor has said you don’t need any further follow ups, take time for a deep breath and carry on!
