I’ll take any advice I can! Please reach out hope your all well blessings and positive vibes! —G
Good question! I like to read, work in the yard (not this time of the year even though there’s still stuff to do). I also like to carve but I’m unable to do that right now due to other health issues. I will clean the house as it always needs cleaned. Edit - I play music I like when I clean house and will dance my way around the dogs. Suduko every morning once I’m off here. Coloring is fun and there’s a lot of adult coloring books. It’s a pleasure to have nice colored pencils. Zentangle can be as detailed as you want. I try to stay off the electronics, it can be hard since we’re always checking emails, texts, etc. and of course trying to get my shop safe to rip a board is the top of my priority list.
What hobbies do you have? Do you embroider, crochet or knit? We’ve got members who are very good artists.
When I was in a similar situation (and I had to wait about 7 months overall from first diagnosis to an embolization procedure) I decided that I needed a hobby that would not only occupy my time but occupy my mind. An empty mind fills with unhelpful thoughts in situations like this. So I decided to build an electronic clock from first principles and I decided to make it synchronize with a long wave time signal transmitted from Germany!
So, I know I’m crazy but that’s what I did.
Did it work? Maybe a bit. I think keeping your mind busy is a good idea.
Did the clock work? Yes!
I’ve never successfully built anything out of electronics before, other than following instructions in a kit, so I was most pleased to get it to do as I wanted. So I’d say consider something that will require a bit of thought.
Very best wishes,
Richard
Hi My hobbies were more outdoorsy and now I’m stuck in the house!!! I was a huge swimmer and runner! Now I have been confined to my couch and bed I guess I could try embroidery that sounds easy enough! I have been playing Tetris online lol it’s kinda addicting! I can’t clean rn since I am 5 weeks post op and de said to wait 3 mo to do anything strenuous I had a csf leak repair meningocele repair dura tear repair and now I’m healing. But I want to keep busy because my brain won’t stop! I love your ideas thanks so much hope you’re ok! I know u said u have some other health issues. Life isn’t easy and I am so angry that I took a lot for granted. Sending positive vibes! ~~~g
hi i like to go in the park and walk while i listen to music for 30min-1 hr. Also love to dance in the house with 80’s music or learning the new viral dance steps online (it helps with my cognitive deficit).
Thanks! Dad always told me I’d be an old woman before I became an old man. He’s correct. Are you allowed to walk? I like my walk abouts as @JoSanti suggests, but it might be too cold up in NY right now. Can you walk around a mall?
Hi @Godismystrength - I just caught up with your posts (you can click on my name for bits of my story). As previously noted by our little community, we all relate to you in one way or another… I hope your appointment a couple days ago was promising at the least(?) - do update us… In the meantime, I thought one way to “distract” your mind with less screen time would be paint by numbers Amazon.com: Fountor Paint by Numbers Kit for Adults Beginner, Countryside Sunset Adult Paint by Number Kits on Canvas Without Frame, Riverside Cabin Oil Paint by Numbers for Home Decor Gift 16” W x 20”L . (You obviously can look for a theme or scene that speaks to you). There’s something about applying paint to canvas/paper and in this case, just following the numbers that is calming.
I have also done this A little art therapy that you just need a pen and blank paper for — good ol’ doodling, but overall I do watercolor and oils… attempting to do “something” everyday, but trust me, I haven’t been successful because my mind can get overwhelmed with other things to do and well, fatigue that keeps creeping up…
Hi @Godismystrength ! Short and sweet, I watch funny cat videos on YouTube. They are distracting and make me laugh… if you’re not a cat person, anything that makes you laugh will do. After all, laughter is the best medicine… all the best to you!
