Vicki, did you have coils and then surgery?
Thanks Pat.
My first and foremost concern is that she is taken care of should I meet any sort of premature demise. By having her qualified for SSDI atleast she'll have my Social Security benefits to keep her going beyond what I'm able to leave her. But not to worry I'm not in danger of leaving anytime soon, God willing.
Hi Robin, I haven't had problems wih shocks after MRI but it does make me feel pretty rough after, I had an MRI last Sunday am still awaiting the results but I had severe headache, neck pain and nausea for a couple of days and the nausea has continued all week and I remember all these symptoms from the last MRI I had in August. Have a good day x
Gill,
The symptoms you experienced appear similar to what is called a silent migraine. You had all the symptoms but not the pain. As described in my posts above, exposure to electrostimulation can induce migraines and it does so in my wife. Lucky for you, you are not getting the pain. Having two MRI's and experiencing the same types of symptoms indicates to me that you may need to alert your Neurologist about this problem. A nearby post titled "Dizziness and Brain Zaps" illustrates that these clips and metal devices can cause secondary problems that Physicians haven't yet recognized.
I had my coiling done October 14 2013 i have been getting shocking feelings and my left side of my face is numb. Itcomes and goes and very weak. But no MRI done. What do i need to do. I am scared. I am real weak. Thanks.
Hi Robin, I haven't got a shock from having an MRI but I do suffer 3 or 4 days with a banging headache after MRI, I can only imagine how scary this must have been for you, take care, Gill xxx
I have always been told if you have platinum coils and stents…NO MRI’S they are NOT SAFE!!!
i'm coiled and I get yearly ones as per neurosurgeon , who told you not safe judy? I have guglielmi detachable coils
oops this is old post, sorry
My NEUROLOGIST SAID NO MRI’S too dangerous!!! Also I am stented too so not sure if that is why no MRS’S !!!
My coils are Platinum
Judy...interesting that this came back up... my is platinum also...The stents were implanted off-label and off-record...well...except the CPT's for billing/payment...
You have some nice docs..my prior research was that it depends on the MRI equipment (diff volume or whatever)...and, by the level (ingredients or components?) of the stents prior...
Cherish your neuro ...for preciseness...
Pat
As the research continues it is important to note the metallurgic composition of the various implant devices. Many of these newer implants are platinum and other supposed non magnetic composition. The problem is that none of these formulations can eliminate 100% of magnetic material as part of the clip, stent or coil composition. This was one of the reasons that back in the 1990's many implant surgeons had the titanium devices run through a MRI machine to determine if it had and magnetic deflection. The challenge however is that the brain's central nervous system is affected by even minor amounts of magnetic material. This how the headaches and migraines occur in individuals with supposed non magnetic implants. Any magnetic material (no matter how small) will allow for an electrical charge and that is what the brain's central nervous system senses and in turn interprets as pain hence headaches and migraines occurring in brain aneurysm implant patients.
