Coil embolization

Do you have to go to intensive care unit after coil embolization and a stent?

I had 3 coils inserted in March. i was in critical care then high dependency for 4 days. I have made an excellent recovery

really? i didnt think it was that serious, i was hoping to be in and out the same day. were the three coils for one anuerysm and was this an unruptured one?

They like to keep a close watch after the procedure in intensive care. I had embolization for an unruptured aneurysm a few months ago. They kept me in hospital for 4 days afterwards. I had some headaches a few days later but if you feel well they let you go home. Wishing you all the best.

Feline, your latest messages didnt show up

my aneurysm had ruptured, as an ex nurse I realised what was happening. I live a long way from the local hospital, but I foolishly decided to go by car, I was then transferred to Preston, and I had excellent care. I also have a small non malignant brain tumour. My last MRI was good, the tumour hasnt grown any more, and the coiling is holding. I do have some memory loss, but this could be age related, I am 73. I was in hospital for 10 days

Hi, I have 2 proceedure's, both for coiling and stents, in both instances it was back to the normal ward after the proceedure's.

I left the hospital the day after the procedure, in both instances!

I guess it is down to the Endovascular specialist and the outcome of the procedure, we are all different and may react differently to the anaesthetic, so I guess there is no strict time table!

I saw the neurosurgeon on thursday and he has given me the option of coiling and balloon remodelling of the aneurysm or doing nothing, he is going to start off the process of coiling and if I want to back out I can. My anuerysm is only 4-5mm and he said about 1% chance of rupturing but that if it did a basilar tip bleed would be catastrophic. But then there is the risk of complications of coiling. I dont know what to do

Were you worried about the possible complications of embolization? I am trying to decide whether to have it done or not, I dont fancy being anxious about my aneurysm rupturing but on the other hand I am scared in case anything happens to me during the procedure. How was the recovery process?
