Thank you so much, oct20! I so appreciate your thoughtfulness. I may pick up the stop the bleed, just to have on hand for peace of mind. Blessings.

Hello Moltroub! I’m back! Thanks be to God!

I had an "Uneventful deployment of a 4.25x12 mm Surpass Elite Flow Diverter.”

I have quite an interesting history, starting with my 1st brain aneurysm discovered 14 years ago. If anyone wants to read it, I have pasted the notes from my records here:

> “history of subarachnoid hemorrhage in 2012 from a left supraclinoid internal carotid artery blister aneurysm. This was treated with surgical wrapping. Her prior course has been complex, including an extracranial left ICA dissection during the initial endovascular assessment, an intraoperative middle cerebral artery tear during surgical treatment, a further iatrogenic left ICA dissection during follow-up angiography, and subarachnoid hemorrhage during an attempted flow-diversion procedure in April 2024. Her most recent diagnostic cerebral angiogram from July 2026 demonstrated a medially facing, broad-necked aneurysm of the left internal carotid artery across the previously wrapped segment, measuring approximately 4 x 2.5 mm, with a broad-based 3.5 mm neck.”

Actually having a serious medical procedure with NO COMPLICATIONS is truly astonishing for me! I am so grateful to God for His mercy, and for all your support here in this amazing community of those who have gone through, or who are going through, the detour that the experience of brain aneurysm puts before us.

My recovery is going so smoothly. Just on blood thinners for 6 months. An MRI in 3 months. And, I have to give up the enjoyment of my mushroom coffee in the morning! Lol! I knew mushrooms were medicinal, so I asked if it could still be enjoyed while being on blood thinners. My amazing surgeon did his research and found that mushrooms also are blood thinners! Need to be avoided! Darn! Oh well, a small sacrifice, while enjoy getting my life back!!!

Thank you so much for being there, and for all your support!!!

You’ve had an amazing journey! It’s great to read your past experiences, thanks for sharing! I’m so glad this time was uneventful! Someone is definitely watching over you! Your doctor sounds amazing, that would take the time to research if you could have your mushroom tea! Perhaps once your off the blood thinner, you can start enjoying it again🤞

What else is there to say but 💓 🙏 💓 🙏 !! Of course, my favorite word from your clinical notes is “uneventful.” That is the best thing of all!!!

The term “Surpass Elite Flow Diverter” was a new one to me, so of course I had to look that up. No surprise that our dear, dear friends at Stryker are behind this invention!! (Disclosure: Stryker made my coils that lead to my extreme bias in thinking positively about them, I am quite sure! 🥰 )

> **[Surpass Elite](https://www.stryker.com/us/en/neurovascular/products/surpass-elite.html)**
>
> The Surpass Elite® Flow Diverter is designed for reduced thrombin generation through its BioStealth surface and improved performance for ease-of-opening with less manipulation.

Or, there is this Open Access article from May 2026 that gives results from [an initial use of the Surpass Elite Flow Diverter](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00234-026-04010-y)

Interesting about mushroom coffee being a blood thinner; I was not aware of that! Sorry to hear that you are off it for now, but hopefully you can be reunited with it post-occlusion!

Congratulations again on getting through this stage of the fight! Can’t wait to hear how it all turns out in just a few months from now!!

All good thoughts from south of the border!!

Thank you so much for your kind words!! And, thank you for doing your own research on the “Surpass Elite Flow Diverter” and sharing that you found it is highly reputable!

I wanted to ask about follow-up symptoms from this type of procedure, that you may have encountered or know from others. I think I was on a bit of a high the first few days, good energy and low-grade headaches. Today is 1 week since the procedure, and my energy is much lower, appetite down and headaches a little more. I’m thinking this must be normal, after all my dear body, brain, thoughts and emotions have been through.

Thank you so much!
Blessings,
Joanne

Hi Joannie, I’m glad to hear you’re through your stent placement and into recovery. I hope you feel stronger and better every day.

I have a 5 x 20 Surpass Elite flow diverter from Stryker that was installed over two aneurysms on the same vessel. Mine was placed in July 2025, and by my follow-up angiogram in December 2025, both aneurysms had fully occluded. Now it just sits there, quietly serving as the most expensive part of my brain. 😁

In a nutshell, following my surgery I experienced a few days in bed with headaches and fatigue, a few months of slower mental processing and forgetfulness, several months seeing light tracers, and a few silent migraines when very stressed. Now a year out, I feel mostly back to normal. We’re watching a 2.8mm aneurysm on my left ICA, hoping it’s stable when I get an MRA in December.

Blood thinners are certainly a challenge. I love grapefruit juice and have always had a bottle in my fridge, but now I can’t drink it. 😭 I’m taking note about mushrooms, another favorite. We discovered I was severely anemic this spring, so I’ve been eating mushrooms with my spinach and eggs in the morning for the iron. I didn’t even think to check if they might hamper the blood thinners. I learn something new here every day!

Sending you my best wishes through your recovery. 💛

Thank you so much, Darlysaar, for your kindness in sharing your story with me. I am so glad to hear that you are feeling mostly back to normal now.

I didn’t know about the grapefruit!

Yes! Definitely the most expensive part of our brains! Lol

Just wondering if your headaches could ever be described as 2 hands gently upon the sides of your head and up top, and down the back of the neck? I have had this sensation often since my 1st aneurysm surgery 14 years ago.

All the best as you keep an eye on the 2.8mm aneurysm on your left ICA.

Blessings,
Joanne

That would make sense that you are experiencing a post-experience crash. You made me want to do some research (o.k., it doesn’t take much!) and I found this page … full disclosure I haven’t had a chance to read it all, but it looks promising (from a great source).

> **[Neuropsychological Treatment After an Aneurysm | Neurological Surgery](https://neurosurgery.weillcornell.org/condition/aneurysm/neuropsychological-treatment-after-aneurysm)**
>
> Many patients recovering from surgery to repair an aneurysm experience some degree of emotional difficulties and/or cognitive changes. A therapy called cognitive remediation — also known as cognitive rehab or cognitive rehabilitation — can...

> An aneurysm may also affect mood and emotions, and this is not simply a reaction to being diagnosed with a frightening cerebrovascular condition. The area of the brain where the aneurysm is located determines what functions are affected. For example, conditions in the left temporal lobe are associated with low mood, but on the right side can produce manic reactions. An anomaly in the frontal lobe will often modify emotional processing and behavior.

My aneurysm was in my PICA so it had less of an impact on my emotions since it impacts my “[hindbrain](https://teachmeanatomy.info/encyclopaedia/p/posterior-inferior-cerebellar-artery/).”

Definitely I find life post-rupture a “game” in that I always need to pace myself to conserve my energy; one off thing could take me over the edge, that is for sure!!

Blessings right back!

Thank you, again, for sharing your thoughts and kindness.

I guess it makes sense that energy levels should fluctuate during the healing process and maybe even beyond, as my body has been through a lot!

I’m just so grateful to be free to live my life, one day at a time, with the cloud lifted.

Blessings,

I just need to share how exhausted I am, having trouble getting out of bed some days. I do have some energy and need to pace myself on some days.

Is this normal after a Stent procedure?

Thank you!!!
