Well, I had my angiogram and it made me sicker than a dog. I am not sure what I was allergic to. They had to put me completly under because of my sleep apena. At first they said they saw nothing and then doctor’s report came back toay and he said he found a 2.5 mm on the stalk. He said that is too small to do anything about and to come back in a year. Of course, if I have another thunderclap I need to go back to the ER. Does that sound right?
Hey Abby,
I would say ‘Yes, that is correct’, I have in the past ignored issues thinking “I know the cause, so don’t worry…” But there was a greater issue occurring that I was unaware of. The whole process could have been dealt with progressively if I’d acted on the initial symptoms, rather than as an urgent emergency situation. Some times with a thunderclap it can be something simple like dehydration where a saline drip may assist other times it could be a bigger issue, either way it’s better to act now rather than a wait ‘n’ see approach.

Abbycat, I have migraines and I second what Merl has said as well as what you were told - you get thuderclap or lightening bolt headache you get yourself to the ER pronto! Those headaches can be a sign of all kinds of problems, or, of course, they can be nothing more than an annoying form of migraine, either way they must be taken seriously.

After the angio it was confirmed that I do have a 2.5 mm one, but he said he does not think hah is what caused the headaches. He said sometimes when you have them it means they are starting to grow…thus, I am on wait watch
Hey Abby,
My wife has a tendency to jump at every ache I have and I have learnt that not every ache is an issue. Jeez, if I acted on every ache I’d be setting up residence in the ER. What I look for now is a progression of symptoms ie a headache, then a face numbness, then nausea etc. Now these are just some of MY signs but everybody’s signs are different.
Personally I think if you believe there is an issue, then you act. I have lost count how many times the dr’s have told me I’m over reacting or it’s nothing to be concerned about, but how are we to know? As I said I ignored things on a pcp’s advise and the surgeon berated me for it. The fact that I needed a pcp’s referral to see the surgeon was irrelevant as far as the surgeon was concerned, but for me it was a catch-22 scenario. The hospital says go see your pcp, the pcp says it’s all ok, but then the surgeon says its not OK, and to get a referral from the pcp.
But as I say ‘…if you believe there is an issue, then you act…’ what’s the worst they can say '…go home, it’s all ok…"? But if there is a major issue what’s the worst that can happen… …DEATH? The dr’s make out they know it all, the fact is they don’t. You are the one managing this, you are the one dealing with it, not them and you have to do what you believe is right for you. Not them.
