hello everybody.

I have 3 neurysms and I was told by the first surgeon that I saw that he would only treat

aneurysms greater than 5mm. Mines are as follows: one is 6mm and the other 2 are 3mm.

Any thoughts on this if any of you had these small annies successfully coiled?? I will be seeing 2 other neuro's for different opinions.

Thank you!!

Audrey,

Oh yes!! The more the merrier.

I am seeing another surgeon in Houston for a 4th opinion because interestingly enough all agree

about treating the big one , but their opinions about the small ones are very different from each other, so the only way for me to find out who is giving the right advice is to confirm it with a fourth opinion.

Are your 2 small ones in the same artery?

It's always good to get another opinion.  Mine are 3mm, very small.  I have 2.  The 6mm one that you have I'm sure should be repaired.

Hey Liz, it might be easier to chat on here. I too have Dr. Mawad he's great. Go to my paige so we can chat.

I made a mistake about the size of my aneurysms.  They are 3mm, not 5.  I guess 5 is easier to remember.

Honestly Liz I couldn't go for a second opinion Im confused enough I think it would just be time consuming and more stressful. I trust my doctor he is very good, Ill cross fingers and hope for the best.I do see him one last time on the 11th feb where I can ask him a heap more questions before my op on the 7th of march. So i can question his reasons on the pipeline stent :))    He did say they don't make coils small enough to treat it so its weird how in America they do at this size .I guess things are different here :)

If I were you, I would get a second opinion to give you a peace of mind.  I am getting 3.

Perhaps things are done very differently in Australia that the US, but I would think the guidelines

are standards.  It is interesting because mine is also behind the eye and even if you suspect of leaking they can do coiling.

Hi Liz Mine is Right ICA as well which Ive been told is the main artery behind my right eye.I haven't had a second opinion because all the research I have done says that my doctor is one of the best in my area. Its scary we put our lives in their hands and hope they know what they're doing.what more can we do ? I'm scared sometimes I wonder if I should just leave it and watch but the headache I had is exactly like people explain when they have had a bleed.I do suffer really bad migraines and I know the difference the pain i experienced was incredible .The best way i can describe it is the pulse on both sides at the back of my head was pumping that hard i thought my head was going to explode .It was sudden bang no build up.I couldn't speak and my gut instinct said to me get an ambulance there is something seriously wrong that headache lasted for 13 days until the found the aneurysm but by that stage all evidence of a bleed was diminished. So it puts me in a hard spot.im booked for surgery on the 7th of March and almost everyday i want to change my mind :(

Thanks Natasha.  Interesting...

If I may ask, where is the location of yours?.  MIne(the big one) is the Right ICA and is a wide

neck too, but no pipeline was offered as an option.  If you have a small one and with no wide neck that is interesting that they offered that as there are guielines.  I saw 2 neuros and I will see a 3rd one next week out of my city so I can make a good decision.  I do know that I will proceed with the stent sometimes in the near future , but I do need confirmation from all of then that 3mm are not worth the risk of treating them. Then I can accept it and move on.....

Oh and apparently they don't like to touch them when they are this small cause they tend to be a bit more risky because they are so small and there is not a lot of room for error :(  This is information i received from my specialist.

Hi Liz,Yes I have been told the pipeline is my only option through the groin .I thought the same thing that they are only used for wide neck aneurysms but apparently not. My case is a little different i guess because of family history and suspect bleed. They would generally not touch them until they are around 5 mm I was told :)
